How do you think mileage affects price?

I'm looking at test driving a few Leon Cupra R's in a week or two, and i've been looking for local ones with a mileage of less than 50,000. There are a few 55 plate ones, that have around 10-20k miles, but the price seems to be around £2k extra (roughly).

So my question is, if I could afford £14k for a 20k miles Cupra R, would a saving of £2000-£3000 be worth it to get a more well-used 50k miles model? Considering I wouldn't mind spending £1000 on getting some decent sound in there..

Or another way of putting it, do you think there's a big difference between 15k miles and 50k miles?

50k mileage is only an issue if its been 50k of thrashing it round town, if its an ex motorway rep mobile, i wouldnt care if it was 150k, aslong as it was well looked after

50k is nothing these days.

Yeah that's my current thinking.

Would you say there was a big difference then between 25k over 3 years, and 25k over 1.5 years? Does age regardless of mileage have much of an effect?

Hi there

Think of it this way, mileage clearly affects price so when you come to selling it on consider what it may also be worth then.

Your best bet is to have your money handy and keep an eye out for a low mileage bargain or try to get someone to lower their price for a lower mileage example. :)

I wouldn't have thought marriage had much to do with it tbh :p

Ensure they are low mileage, they are riddled with bugs at higher mileages.

I would check the warranty and service record but dont think it's a major problem. i would use the fact to get the price down a bit though.

Sporty cars, when they are ex company cars, dont make the best buy, sure they are serviced regularly and bits are replaced when they go wrong, but they dont half get thrashed.

As a general rule, if you are planning to keep the car for a while, i wouldnt be too bothered about the resale value.
