Ok its actually been raining all night, plus it rained several times throughout the week yet we still have a hose pipe ban.

So the question is how do I do the pre-soap rinse off so as not to scratch the body work by putting the sponge directly to the dirt?

Watering Can.

Take the rose off by the way :D

I find it easier than getting the hose all out then packing it all away. You will need a large watering can though and possibly need to refil it.

Oh year forgot to mention that I live in a flat with no external water source :D (I usually wash the car at the future-inlaws. Plus I dont have a watering can :p

Bucket and sponge. If you're really in the mood, you can use another bucket for rinsing the sponge.

It works well, but I find myself cleaning the car at least twice to get it properly clean. We have hard water and I have a black car though :(

This has to be the stupidest question i've seen asked, use a bloody bucket or a watering can mate it ain't rocket science.

I use a hose anyway :p
I Washed the car at night when every one was in bed :D

How does England manage to get a drought anyway?

Not enough rain over the winter/spring apparently. And the rain we did have is 'the wrong type of rain' apparently :/

This country is a joke sometimes. Anything slightly out of the ordinary and it all goes to ****

theres no problem collecting it, it's transporting the stuff we have problems with.
we lose millions of gallons of water from our essentially victorian water system.

:(

surely the leaked water goes back into the water table thou? ;)

do what I do, go down the jetwash

eventually, but then it needs to be collected, filtered, purified etc all over again....only to have the majority of it lost AGAIN through the same decrepit system.

a wash mit? just the same as a big car sponge.

Dirt stays on the surface of the sponge, so it leaves swirl marks when u wash the car because the dirt as scratching.

With a wash mit the dirt goes into it deaper and doesn hand around the surface so it cant scratch the car :)

Wash mit>sponge
