going from my other thread about cache, I have a gigabyte GA-MA74GMT-s2 which is am3 with ddr3 and currently has an Athlon ii x2 250 which at the moment I haven't tried out yet really(installing windows) and the aim of this old system is run anno 2205 well and some older games, so I am building it for such, but I know the dual core wouldn't manage anno well enough even if I overclocked and purchased another gtx 750 for example(no gpu card at present).

Now when I had my haswell build with the i3 4160, 16gb ram, gtx 750 1gb oc I ran anno smoothly on high at over 50fps as well as my other demanding games at 768/720p res which is what I'm using again.

I know the architecture is very different and haswell being more advanced etc, but could I expect similar performance levels if I had the same gpu plus a triple core for example? Or would I in fact need at least the x4 processors?

At the moment I only have 2gb ddr3 which is the 1333 type(nearly had 4gb but new ram wrong or faulty) and this board only supports 8gb max, but that shouldn't make too big of an impact really.

Not sure how they compare but I still have a 4c phenom ii in it's box since I upgraded to an 4670k.

It was a great cpu which started life as a dual core and only cost me £60 odd, I was lucky and was able to unlock the extra 2 cores :).

If your ever near somerset your welcome to it, I also have some ram floating about too somewhere.

Ha I know they were good processors in their time as far as amd rep for performance went, but the i3 I had felt a better performance than a stock q6600 I had at same time which in fairness had less ram to back it up and was used for testing games rather than overall like the haswell was used(was selling the 775 system at time) and I have had triple core amd which was an Athlon I think, it was in an acer X???? sff computer which wasn't really for gaming and when I did get my hands on a phen x4 I sold it days later as a multimedia computer, so tried no games then the last amd I had was the 860k I think, 8?? Anyways which again I never tried out and sold it in a gaming system I built for sale as it came in a aerocool DS cube I wanted for my haswell build lol.

I think the oc gtx 750 I had was this deal sealer as I had a normal zotac version before that was also 1gb and even at 768 res it struggled with the i3 and 16gb ram more so with an oc I put on it lol.

I am in Devon so near Somerset anyways, however I don't have much money for this build as I got a normal ps4 and games the other day lol and aiming for Sony VR next pay day, but thanks for the offer, I need to sort a gpu out as whatever cpu is get I'd still only have ati 2100 graphics or whatever the board sports ha

I was offering it for nothing dude. I have no use for it and would rather it go to a better home. If you want it your welcome to it but you'll have to collect.
