How far can a dishwasher be from the waste point?

Hi. We're getting a dishwasher as we're both fed up off the amount of time we're spending scrubbing things!

However, the only place we can locate the unit is approx 2.4 metres / 8 foot (going by length of pipe required as opposed to "as the crow flies") away from the kitchen sink i.e. waste point. Will this present problems or can modern applicances cope with a distance such as this?

Many thanks.

Shouldnt be a problem if its plumbed in correctly.

In our kitchen, the sink and the waste point are on the back wall near the patio doors.

The dishwasher is on the other side of the room under the opposite worksurface as its the only place we had to fit it.

A mate of mine who is a plumber, ran copper pipe from the dishwasher around the corners and length of the kitchen units till it got to the waste point. We had to use a bore saw drill attachment to drill the holes at floor level through the kitchen units underneath.

Works a treat. Been in for over a year and no problems at all.

Dont however, be tempted to extend the plastic flexy pipe and couple it up with another one to get the length.

I tried that at first and after a week, it had began to seriously leak and I ended up having to lift the laminate floor tiles to dry it all out.
