how high can I5 2500 sandy bridge clock on air?

From what I've seen after around 4.7-4.8GHz the voltage required starts to approach or get north of 1.4V, which would make a lot of people nervous.

However, you have to remember how well speedstep works with SB, your CPU should spend most of it's life at 1.6GHz and around 1V.

gurusan: exactly, i use speed step regardless of what OC i run its great and helps prolong the cpu life. i was nervous leaving it at 5ghz 1.46v so i dropped it back to 4.6ghz at 1.39v

qbazdz: My case is a cooler master storm scout mid tower with handle which comes with a top mounted 140mm exhaust fan and 2x 120mm fans, one at the front pulling air in and one at the back exhausting.
My noctua nh d14 is set up facing sideways so the air is blown towards the back of the case and obviously is pulled out by the top and back fans.
Since getting the noctua my gtx 570 is around 4c cooler too although it only just fits in the case with about 1-2mm spare lol

PSU is a Corsair 850w modular as i plan to get another GTX 570 in the future.

Shadz: after spending almost £900.00 on the bits inside my case to have my 1st intel pc i wanted to see if i had a good chip so i OC'ed it to 5ghz.
It took me a couple of weeks to learn the bios settings as i got loads of BSOD's even at stock settings as every mobo and chip, ram etc are different and it took a while to sort it all out. plus the P67 mobo bios's haven't exactly been brilliant.

Just managed to boot and run stuff at 4.9ghz at 1.4v no blue screen yet and a cinebench 11.5 of 7.65 i know it wont be proper stable but interesting as i didnt think it would boot up never mind do stuff

I have mine running at 4.5 only using 1.28 volts, and 63 deg in prime using a titan fenrir. For me thats fine for the time being . As a cpu usually lasts me a couple of years ,i shall wait a year to see how thease cpu's hold up then maybe push it more :D
