How long did it take to build your first PC?

It was like 1 hr to build 3 hrs to get the cables the way I wanted them and then about 20hrs before it went blurrgghhh and I spent 3 days before I got it all running again.

First build was around 6 hours, but that was way back in 1998, things took much longer back then.

Longest build was probably a week, but that involved many case mods to fit my Vapo and watercooling kit.

Even now, about 2-3 hours. I take all my old components out, remove the dust, open up the PSU and oil the fan bearings and remove the dust. Then I actually start putting the new bits in. :D

First pc took me 3/4 hours due to stopin to watch football

last build 70 mins to get me online & installing games

I used to mod amigas etc back in the day, but first computer I built was a 386 and it took a while, good 6 hours.

Under 3 hours?

I spend 3 hours just routing the cables so they are out of sight (out of mind) and look cool!

Bloody hard work though deciding where to put what.

The rest is as easy as pie I guess :p

My first PC build was an Enlight 7237 case and I then painted it blue as well as the CRT bezel, keyboard and mouse. Thems were the days!

The first one took a long time but then I had to set the motherboard jumpers, configure the hard drives C/H/S settings, make sure the Soundblaster had the right IRQ/IO/DMA settings, etc, etc.

These days it takes no time at all, a child could do it with easy (and they do).

Can't remember, it was 15 years ago. I would think it was probably around an 45mins or so for hardware and then another hour for Windows and Software :)

When I was 5 or 6 I put together a pentium 4 PC with my dad, it probably took us about an hour, maybe two? My memory for it isn't that great. But it was essentially migrate pieces into a case... and wasn't exactly a difficult prospect even for me haha.

At 13 I built a £600 rig in a about 2 hours as well. Worked great from first boot until about 2 months later when the graphics card popped itself and I had to RMA... and got the same unfixed card back only to RMA again.

My most recent build took a LOT longer... cabling had to be pristine.

I built mine in a day really, few problems along the way but it all worked out.

I went tally-ho straight off and didn't work particuarly well. I just srewed the Mobo straight to the case and ignored the risers (I thought they were for specific cases). And well, the outputs didn't match up to the cutout for the case, so i decided to ignore it. Fit the rest of everything and powered it, no start. (I wonder why) Watched a video on the youtubes and found out the risers actually do something, put then in then its been golden from now on.

My only concern was i was very cheap in places i probably shouldn't have been. My case was cheap as chips and is a pile of monkey nuts.

I managed to get 2 cold cathode tubes second hand for around 90p, did provide the sticky thing, so i had to duct tape them in.

Cables everywhere... no hiding. Midi case for something quite a bit bigger than midi.

live and learn.

Are we talking software build also?

If not 3/4's of an Hour.

If so add an hour and a half for Windows,Updates and Security software installations

Also if we're adding clocking times 3 days for all tests and final clock settings,.
