How long does it take for people to become addicted to nicotine?

Is it definitely a smoke detector? The ones in our rooms and kitchens are just 'heat detectors' so we can smoke all we like in our room or in the kitchen with the windows open :D

nah smoke in corridors/rooms heat in kitchen and bath room.

psychological addiction doesn't kill you when you try to quit cold turkey though.

Doesn't that only apply to the drugs that are considered beyond 'recreational use'?

Never heard of a coke addict dying from going cold turkey, or speed for that matter.

Think it's restricted to the heavy opiates.

Nope the main one is alcohol, that's why its risky for an alcoholic to give up without medical help.

Smoke from time to time, have done for years. Never once become addicted.

Same here. Although some people start the argument "Unless you stop entirely, how do you know you're not addicted?" ... I call it an addiction when you can't fight away a craving, there's a difference between wanting something and needing something, and I never need to smoke. I can (and have) gone weeks and weeks without it.

I have smoked several times but all have been drunk (with a girl I had some kind of feelings for, the shame! :o).

Never felt addicted once and never really enjoyed it either. Its pretty mingdog.com/tramp.
