How long to have a new phone "unbarred"?

I got my new mobile from orange this afternoon called them about 3pm and was told they'd unrestricted it (as it's locked until I call them) but I haven't recieved any message and still can't make calls or text. Have turned it off about a hour ago to see if it would get it on reconnection but nothing.

bleh! I want to play!

can take up to 24 hours apparently, wish I'd been told that to start with would have saved me a 21minute phone call listening to horrific music!
