How many CALs come with WS 2008 R2 Standard, Enterprise, Datacenter?

Hey all,

After finding out I can get these three free via MSDN I am going to install one on my HP Microserver (when it comes).

Now MSDN does not state how many CALs come with each one, is there a standard amount for how many come with each edition and/or do any have unlimited?

The default number of CALs is normally 5.

AFAIK there’s no actual CAL enforcement within any current Microsoft server product.

If it’s MSDN then the license is probably only for dev/test purposes and not for production.

Depends which you buy, per seat or per server licence.

Nope, no enforcement in Server 2008 R2. Recently purchased a 25 CAL Enterprise license and you get a piece of paper to write down how your user/device CAL split is made up.

Per Seat/Server is an old concept (Windows 2000 and earlier). Its now Devices, Users and/or Connectors.
