How many GDers are still into high-end PCs?

Honestly, I am way behind all the new technology. The last time I put together a high-end PC was in 2003. I had saved up enough to buy myself a Vapochill and managed to get my computer running at a respectable 3.2Ghz. That was then, now I am on a laptop that's less than half the speed of that rig, I have never put together a dual-core system, my last GFX was AGP and I don't even know the difference between DDR and DDR2 let alone owned the latter.

What about you? Have you grown out of spending silly money on your system? Got another expensive hobby (girlfriend?) to waster your hard earned quids on?

I just never expected to see such a big difference in both speed and capacity!
I'm in exactly the same boat.

I no longer spend money on my PC but on the girlfriend, music, musical instruments and usually, alcohol.

The computer I have plays all the games I have fine so I haven't upgraded for ages. I am going to either upgrade or buy an apple laptop when I get a job though. I'm too lazy to find a job so it could be a while :)

Lost interest when I stopped gaming about 9 months ago. Upgrading is all a bit futile I found, with the performance boost never quite justifying the expense.

I used to play a fair amount of PC games and always tended to have a middling system compared to most on these boards, so fairly powerful, but then I decided since I use macs for work I may as well get one for home, so I bought my Mac Mini, stripped my more powerful rig, and I just bought a new Macbook yesterday.

I keep my gaming to my 360 now, but I'm thinking about putting together a server to go in the loft so I guess the hardware bug hasn't left me entirely :)

About 2 years ago I was well into PC hardware, and I spent quite a bit on my PC. Overclocking meant I got pretty good performance for what I paid though.

Since then I've had very little disposable income, so I haven't spent anything upgrading my PC. I still keep up to date with hardware, and I still do most of my posting in the hardware forums. I also still get asked to build PCs for people, and fix people's IT problems. But having not upgraded for so long I've pretty much kicked the "upgrade habit". Besides, all I've played for the last year or two has been Call Of Duty, hardly the most demanding game in the world. :)

When I first joined the forum I was really into hardware and the whole overclocking thing, the interest simply isn't there for me anymore.

I remain interested in other aspects of computing though :)

Never been massively into upgrading, I would only do it when I felt it neccessary. Do it from time to time but no where near as often, guess I grew out of it and found other things to spend money on.

Completely lost interest a couple of years ago, i still buy a lot of stuff like hard disk's as i download a lot, and i buy peripherals, but core hardware i cant really be arsed with as long as i dont notice it being below par and does everything i require of it.

Another thing I have done over the last 2-3 years is buy 2nd hand gear although they arnt as cheap as they used to be.

Nope, I'm still stupid with money, which is what happens when you earn a lot and have no kids to speak of!!! :D

considering a new build soon, something which has DX10 support, gotta get the missus' birthday present first though

lol i signed up here years ago when i was clocking my kt7a-raid athlon computer! year later i came back to ask about clocking my nf7-s with barton 2500+.. ive still got that computer now LOL aint bothered upgrading for about two years.
infact ive clocked it down, redused the fsb, clock multi and voltage. turned the fan on LOW so its now a ultra silent machine :D

I've got relatively little interest in PC hardware these days, my current system has largely been unchanged for 3 years (added/swapped out a couple of drives and the PSU).

I'm probably going to upgrade in a couple of months, but won't be aiming for top of the range but rather something that will keep me running for another few years :)

I've worked out a rough spec already :)

I've not really been interested for a few years. I use my laptop most of the time, and the next pc I buy myself will probably be pre-built.

I've got a pretty nice rig here (Core 2 Duo e4300, PCI-E 7900GS, 1GB RAM) and I've just massively lost interest in gaming, so it's all going to waste.

I haven't played on this PC since I completed Tomb Raider: Legend about a month ago. I just play on my DS the whole time.

Last time I spent any money on my PC was ~3 years ago, around the time of Half Life 2 and specifically for it. Spent around £700 on it then, but I dont have a clue whats even in it now.

Far better things to spend money on now, and my PC is basically just a ridiculously overpowered web browser.

It actually failed to boot last night for the first time ever, and I nearly crapped my pants as I wouldnt have a clue where to start anymore.

See my signature :) Up to date hardware with Vista. All courtesy of OCUK. However, I spend much of my gaming time on consoles, due to the PC gaming drought that's blighted 2006/7 :(

rarely have time to boot my pc up, so im on my lappy all the time, no need for anything overly special :]
