How many got 8800 for 1280x1024 res?

Utter tosh. nVidia engineers didnt sit there going "hmm ok now we need to make a card for that gaping hole in the market of people gaming at 1600x1200 res and bigger...."

They simply designed the fastest card possible at the time. With many games from the last couple of years the 8800GTS CAN do at 1600+ but there are still many games that the 7800GTX cant do at 1280x1024 at max with what I would consider acceptable FPS (40-50 min).

Being able to have v-sync and constant 60fps would be awesome, but I have to disable v-sync in order to make things smooth.

Have you tried enabling triple buffering as well as v-sync?

If people did not buy new hardware we would still be playing rock paper and sissors

Ahh, But would we not just be playing rock rock and rock?

So sorry.... :p

IMO..GO for it, Even if its overkill now, When you get a new monitor(girlfriend allowing :p) It will be a lovely way to show off the new monitors capabilities, wink wink nudge nudge. :p

agreed these two go hand in hand, i thought it was common knowledge too?

Unless its been fixed and I wasnt aware, but there always was a bug or problem on the nVidia cards where v-sync and triple buffering didnt work to sort out the issues when your frames drop below the monitor refresh rate (typically 60fps).

It's 'common knowledge' that the triple-buffering implementation in Direct X is defective. Enable TB in control panel and set v-sync to 'force on'. Then go play HL2 ep1 or FEAR or something, and you'll see the usual double buffering framerate dives when the framerate drops below the monitor maximum refresh.

It's implemented well in Open GL, but not DX. One of the main reasons I'm sticking with my CRT until it's sorted.

Dood read the rules on sig size already  Also i dont think your X2 is really at 4.6ghz is it?

But thanks for the info it helps, although your 3DMark06 score seems a little lower than I would hope. Although I guess without a conroe its hard to push it to 10k.

LEts be honest here, UT 2007, Cysis, Alan Wake etc.... all these game will look amazing and use dx10 in one way or another, so yeah you want these cards and @ 1280*1024 im sure they will run great with everything maxed out, or at lease we can hope. But i genuinely believe that these games at 1600*1200 for example will nto run with everything maxed out on a GTS or GTX @ like amazing fps! Current gen titles sure will thats fine but not for the next gen titles coming!

So I would say by all means get a GTS for 1280*1024 because even at that resolution games will look great, the image quality is second to none and the fatc is as newer games get released that desire more horsepower your res will be ideal for them!

Proof?

Thats pure conjecture as you just do not know!

he said he genuinly believes, not "i have proof"
he is probably basing his opinion on the state of play with gfx cards for the last god knows however long and im inclined to agree with him

I very much doubt crysis etc will run at 1600x1200 with 6aa and 16AF and HDR etc on a 8800gts or gtx and get like 60 odd fps....maybe between like 20-35

they will run yes, drop some settings and theyl look almost the same and run better, but he was saying he doubts theyl run at the same uber fps as games now and still have EVERYTHING max

Im not attacking the cards at all Easy I just dont believe we will have all these super silky 16x everything framerates at the highest resolutions for these newer games.

I would love to be wrong thats the thing, and im aware I dont know this for a fact I am just speculating as to what MAY happen.

I will be getting a GTX next week by the looks of things so its in no way an envious post to attack the NVidia cards I am just suggesting something that could happen.

I should ahve mentioned maturing of drivers should also see increased performance from what we are currently experiencing :P
