How many photos do you take before you get a keeper?

Wouldn't have a clue but it would be very low. Take mostly macros and the DOF is razor thin and a ton of them are a fraction out. Other shots of family etc.., there be a lot I wouldn't class as a keeper as such but I'll hold on to them, not for their aesthetics but more as something to look back on in the future.

Interesting discusion, for me a lot depends on the subject. When I've helped out at weddings I find about 30% of my images fail due to focus, exposure or bad composition .The other shots around 60% are ok and will sell but need a fair amount of tweeking like croping etc and the remaining 10% have wow factor.
With landscape shots I can shot all day and although 90% of images are good I feel lucky if I get 1 or2 that I'm really happy with.
The more experience I gain the more critical iam of my work.

For me the bigger issue is how many shots I take after I get a good one. Experience tells me that when I look at a scene the first or second photo I take of it will be far and away the best but I will then think about it loads move around change the angle etc etc and take another 10 photos all of which are poor by comparison.

I need to learn to trust my instinct and walk away after a few clicks!
