How is it overkill? If it costs the same or less and uses the same or less power, why does it matter?
Because LMS doesn't need much CPU horsepower, it ran pretty well on a single core ancient 300 mhz NAS (when I had a smaller library)
The picoreplayer OS itself is about 100MB
LMS on Windows was never great as Perl in Windows very hoggy, also the new one seems to have issues with auto start (something to do with Strawberry Perl) so it's not worth it with Windows + LMS. LMS used to be a dedicated Windows service, rather than an application that loaded after Windows start.
Quick look at N100 PC £300- that's triple the price, I wouldn't want to spend that just to get music server up.
