Hi guys, I'm going to move to Hull in a few months just for 1 school year (still in college but not a kid, I'm 25). But I'm completely lost about rents and flats. I'm trying to avoid shared flats since I've had really bad experiences, so I'm looking for studios.
The thing is the studios with bills icluded I have found are about 600-700pcm, and the ones that doesn't include bills are 400pcm, so maybe it's worth to pay bills separately from the rent.

I'd like to know how much you spend in bills each month since I'm not from England so I have no idea about prices here.

PS: as I'm sure you've noticed english is not my mothertongue so don't be harsh on me.

Thanks!

I live alone, gas and electric is normally around £25 a month in summer £50 in winter, virgin media is £55 (200mb), water is £25ish, council tax is £150 but people don't pay that on rented places do they?

I guess that's it haha?

£105 without council tax

Yes renters pay council tax.

Our houshold bills come to around £1.2k a month, £725 of that is rent.

Converting to GBP, I spend £421 a month to live.

Paid considerably more in the past when back in London. And that was just food.

I have no clue about Hull but 600-700 PCM all in sounds ok to me. Especially if there's no surprises with the bills.

2 bed flat, around 40 a month on gas/electric, 35 water, council tax 85, but assuming you're a full time student you'll be exempt from having to pay that. Internet is 76mbit and £25 a month

Bear in mind in Hull you'll be limited to KCOM if you want a phone line / internet. It's considerably more expensive than elsewhere. The fibre (if you can get it) is FTTP and 200 or 400mbit and actually quite decent.

renters do (usually, there are variations here) pay council tax but full time student's don't so your without council tax figure is still useful for the OP :)

Living on my own, but it's a 3 bed new build house.

Gas/Electric - £60 per month
Water (fresh and sewerage combined) - £20 per month
Phone + 40mbps FTTC - £25 per month
Council Tax - £132 per month

That's the basics sorted, I could see energy costs varying based on how well the house performs for energy efficiency.

Add your own costs for other things like food, transport, mobile phone etc.

i would opt to pay for bills separately. from your examples of 400 without and 700 with.. thats 300£ per month - there is no way you use that much eletric/water/gas to cost you 300£ especially when you will be in college for the most part and you can take advantage of that - study in college after classes (evenings).. use their showers etc..

You have to pay for water ?

Pffft,

I don't think we Scots can thank you Eeeenglish muppets enough for paying for our
free water, free prescriptions, free bridge tolls, free care for the elderly and free Uni tuition fees.

I didn't expect so many of you would answer to this, thank you so much! You've all been very helpful. I think I'll pay bills separately, prices are pretty reasonable, I think the most expensive bill I'll get will be internet so it's worth for me :)

Thanks!
