I suggest you use your £50k to get a couple of hotels on Park Lane/Mayfair and see if you can get hold of all the stations - they can be really nice little earners once you've got them all.

About 8K in current account, 2K in savings account, 11K when my private pension matures in a few years, £700 shares with carnival cruises (free shares given to me when I worked for them in the 90's) and my mortgage (£256pm) which finishes in 19 months makes my 1 bedroom flat all mine and currently supposed to be worth around £180K, although I'd need to spend around 8 to 10K on it to get that price and probably renew the leasehold. Mortgage was only £43K when I took it out in 1987, so it's win win.
