How much of your monthly wage goes on rent.

28%, and I live alone. But with council tax, utilities, internet, health insurance, and a standing order to put money into savings, it comes to 48%.

Still, the remainder is more than enough to live on comfortably.

Edit: that's % of take-home pay after tax and pension deductions.

I'm not settled enough to buy a house just yet and need to move out.

Would you say around 40% of your wages goes towards rent?

I live in a shared apartment, after tax I spend 15.5% of my monthly wage on flat rent. But I have 13 months of pay a year, so that is more like 14.3%. Of my untaxed 13 months of pay, this is 11.5%


This rent includes some electricity and all heating an hot water. There is no council tax charges (as this i in the income tax).

32%, live on my own. That doesn't include utilities.

When I was living in work provided accomodation it was 21%, but that included everything + a cleaner. (Also, up to 4 house mates. :( )
