How much of your monthly wage goes on rent.

Yeah. After taxes, national insurance, student loan and pension contributions my rent takes up 37% of my monthly income. It used to be about 45% though.

I'd say 40% is a reasonable target, but don't underestimate the cost of gas, electric and water bills, or council tax. These can all add up, and take your monthly expenditure to well over 50%.

While working in London [have now quit] rent and travelcard to get into London were both about 25% of my pre-tax income - IE 50% gone before I even started looking at bills and food.

well technically with what I'm earning and how much rent I physically pay, 110% of my wage goes on rent :(

after beating his share of the rent out of my brother, I'd say probably 50-55% goes on rent, I'm stuck in hell :/
