Rawr.

Here's the situation. First holiday away without parents. 4 guys. Plus a timeshare. Tenerife. All Year 13 at 6th form, so i believe we're all going to be 18, except the guy whose actually organising it...

Right, we're going for a week and we've started to talk more about the 'finer details' (We're going in July) and the question we're most, concerned about is how many Euros we should take? We're thinking along the mark of €200?

The money will be for food, drink, alcohol, emergencies, alcohol, travel and maybe alcohol.

Yup, €200 a day should be grand - you might even have some change at the end of it if you don't go completely nuts. Take your bank card (make sure it can withdraw from ATMs abroad), no point in carrying cash - it'll just get lost!

A DAY?

Yes we will be taking our cashcards, everywhere is Link these days anyways i believe.

€200/week won't really be enough. It's less than €30/day - you could easily spend that on booze alone.

I'd say €350 (€50/day) would be more realistic. Also bring credit cards etc for emergencies - you never know when you may need it.

More is always good though :).

When I went to Lanzarote three years in a row. I was spending around €50-€70 a day. We went out every night, drinks during happy hours were around €5-€7, buy one get one free until around 1am, though we didn't go out until around 11pm to 12am anyway. I'll expect Tenerife to be the same, being the Canary Islands.

We ended up just getting bread and pot noodles for the afternoon when waking up, and then spending around €10 a head on food on a meal out.

I'd say €300-€400 is a more realistic figure. I spend around €800 on two week holidays, going out drinking every night.

Depending on your bank, you may be charged for withdrawing cash from another country + exchange charges etc.

If you do draw out, draw out in a big lump.

LOL I wasn't sure if you meant each day or for the whole week.

I don't think €200 is enough - you'd be looking at €500 bare mininum.

Hmm, certainly has put things into context. We're not huge party people as such - as in the group of us going but we are aiming to have a good time and attempt to get a friend wasted beyond belief because we haven't seen him drunk before.

Thankyou kindly for the input so far. Think i have my answer but feel free to post your stories. ;)

Heh, most my stories are either not suitable for this family forum, or involve me being rather drunk and vomiting over myself.

not a chance with 200, by day for you will be drinking sea water and eating out of dust bins.

7 years ago I went to Ibiza for 2 weeks and brought £800 and it ran out in 8 days.

I would say you want about 400 euro's to make sure you have enough and if there is anything left over you can always change it back.

When my brother went to playa del ingles he fell through a door with his friend and that alone cost them €200.

I know people say how cheap the canaries are, and in a way it's true.
A steak and a drink can cost you €15 instead of €30. Cocktails cost €3 instead of €6 like they do back home. Cigs cost €2 instead of €6 (or whatever)

At the same time everything adds up. You're obviously going to go pretty mental out there, right?

Here's some REALLY good advice for first time holiday goers:

1. Avoid fights. The police over there will beat the crap outta ya and throw you in a cell just long enough to miss your flight home.
2. Avoid lapdancing clubs. They get you in with the promise of a free drink and a free dance. A minute later two burley bouncers will frogmarch you down to the ATM looking for the €200 admission fee.
3. Avoid africans selling jewellery. If you show any interest they will refuse to go away.
4. Rent a safe, but be careful with the key (and don't share it with the people you just met in the next apartment)
AND MOST IMPORTANT:
5. DO NOT LEND MONEY TO FRIENDS. OK, of course you can make an exception for your best friend, but I know a group of people who went on holidays. One of them had hardly any money and when he ran out he took hundreds of euro off the other guys and didn't pay it back.
Also, expect to fall out with at least one of your friends, and become better friends with the other... at least that's my experience of holidays! You really get to know the people you're living with.

If you wanna save some cash Sidewinder, take some pot noodles and packet pasta things along. Or at least do a shop on the first day and stock up on bread/cobs and loads of bottles of water :)

Hm, if it makes any difference, we're going to:

Sunset Bay at Torviscas
Calle Navarro No.1
Costa Adeje 38660
Adeje

Wonder if anyone has been to that part before.

tenchi-fan: Sounds like good advice to me. We're not the fighting sort anyways so we should be okay. Hadn't thought about the safe but it does make sense - we'll all be bringing expensive items such as mp3 players and mobile phones so it would be a peace of mind to have them locked up securely.

SexyBetty: Awesome idea my dear.

i've had some amazing holidays, booked last minute, all flights and accomodation (2 weeks) and money for 'entertainments', coming in at under £300

i guess it depends on what you're wanting to do, add on a couple 'holiday experiences' like paragliding or scuba diving and that's atleast £50 a time.
eat out every night, you're looking at £20 a time, taxi's a fiver a pop maybe, drink, well i suppose that's dependant on how much and where from :D

it's always best to take more, just to be on the safe side - but don't bankrupt yourself to spend a week drunk out of your head, getting sunburned, and not being able to remeber anything at all of your first 'lads holiday' - what a waste?!

bah, who am i trying to kid :p

Never thought of excursions, and you will def want to partake in these!

I went to Majorca and paid £70 for a reps night out to a show called Pirates, a boozy cruise (with all the voddy and orange you can drink :p) a Popcorn party, (like a foam party, but with popcorn obv :D) and a paraglide.

Well worth it imo :D
