I work for a language company and they want to use one of my pictures in their advertising. It'll be a full page in their brochure which is published and sent all around the world. Great! Only thing is I don't know how much money I should be looking for. I really pleased they like the picture so much, (the originally deal was I let the building I work in mount it in a frame to use in the school, then an MD noticed it and said it would be perfect). I would love to have my work published in this way!!! Only thing is....

I dont want to sell myself short, they're a huge company and make lots of money. But I don't want to be rude and ask for too much.... Any ideas of approximate prices to look for?

Its a bit vague really, to be honest I think you should ask them to make you a reasonable offer and see what they come up with, then add a bit more on top of that, what they offer is what they consider a bargain, so ask for a bit more and I am sure they would stretch to it.
By the sounds of it though you could be seeing some mega $$$ here :)

i remember cyk linking some chart that showed what a photographer should be charging for different things. although that may have been web based, i can't remember. hopefully he'll chime in

The company has language schools all over the world and the brochure is used to advertise them all. My picture would be one of only 4 full page pictures. Its not a huge document, only about 15 pages. But it gets sent out to anyone interested in the company/they have it in schools around the world trying to get pupils to come and study english with them... So its quite good i think!

I like the idea of just asking them to make me an offer. But i have a feeling they'll try to pass me off with a few quid, they keep asking me so I know they really want it, + the questions are coming from head office now not my local school. I was just looking for what someone would think is a good price for someone whos not really sold in advertising before! I usually deal in bulk orders, just sellings loads of pictures of the students to the students for a couple of pounds each you see.

A full-page rights-protected image from a photo library (like Getty) to be used in world-wide marketing collateral will cost from anything from 500-800 quid and upwards ... and we would have to pay for it for every time the job is reprinted. I expect they would want to pay less than this. A decent full-page, royalty-free image can be purchase from around 150 quid upwards. It all depends how badly they want to use it. I think F11 is in the right ball-park.

Hey dude, congratulations! That is pretty wicked to say the least! Show us the pic!! Have you got an idea for price yet? What are they paying for the other full page photos? Maybe you could ask that? Oh, and apparently kempy phoned in radio 1 the other day! HAHA!!

This is the picture:-

I know its not amazing, but it fits their theme perfectly and it works with the brochure...

Thanks everyone for posting your estimates and to Cykey for that website! Very useful.

I think i'll try and hold out for £200, seems fair seeing as what they're using it for. But definetly going to get them to give me an offer before hand. Maybe they'll actually give me a decent price right out of the hat.

Well the MD isn't around till monday so i gotta wait till then to negoiate. Quite looking forward to it for some strange reason... :p
