How much were your energy bills for the last couple of months?

I've been sorting loft insulation and it's the first time using heating in anger since renovating a property. We've been renting for some time with oil and subsidised electricity and so not sure if my bills are high or average.

We're in a four bed property using a gas combi for heating, two adults two kids. Standard variable tariff with eon next, no solar, but we have underfloor heating downstairs.

November costs were £75 electric £180 gas but we had no loft insulation in place. We had a really cold snap end of November too

December costs were £70 electric and £130 gas fully insulated

If anyone doesn't mind sharing costs for the same months that would be appreciated

Oct: 486 kWh Elec @ £94.93
367 kWh Gas @ £28.12

Nov: 424 kWh Elec @ £92.13
856 kWh Gas @ £55.01

We're 4 adults here using 5100/6700 kWh of Elec/Gas per year, can't tell much about your costs unless you know how much you've used because otherwise those prices could be damn cheap (probably not) without the usage.

You're both doing well compared to our large detached four bed property as our monthly electricity bill is around £140 a month. There's only two of us, thus the dish washer is only used twice weekly, the washing machine is probably on every three days. I've been around and changed every light bulb for a led as well.
Can't say about the heating as we're on oil and our daily average is around 8-9 litres.
The 2003 built house does get cold though, compared to the 2022 built semi we came from, and we're gradually replacing all the wooded double glazed.glazed patio doors, windows and external doors in an effort to keep the warmth in as some of them are quite draughty.

I was £150 for gas an electricity on average for the last couple of months which is insane considering I live on my own and I'm at work half the time. The high standing charges do really make a dent in your bill. I'm with Octopus as well.

Yeah my energy bills are huge at the moment, 4 bed detached, 4 adults 2 at home all the time.

I would say £90 a week at the moment, probably £60 gas.

Just to add dishwasher on every day, washing machine and tumble dryer nearly everyday, women love washing.

about £85 a month DD for electric but we are in credit currently.

There's 3 of us in a large detached house that's 8 years old, dishwasher is on every day and the washing machine and tumble drier are on most days too. I WFH most days as does the missus.

We do have 2kw of solar on the roof but it's not doing a whole lot this time of year.

We're not on mains gas either so that's a bit harder to work out and we have a log burner which we'll use if we're in the house for the day.

1930s solid wall construction 3 bed semi, with 100mm unfloor PIR and 270mm loft insulation. Still very draughty in places (almost there)... Also, an EV used moderately but plugged in each night on a granny charger usually (8 miles/day 4 days a week, plus weekend duties).

Electricity: £106.34 / 457kwh or 23p/kwh (time of use tariff)
Gas: £102.85 / 1398kwh or 7.3p/kwh

I don't think that includes standing charge.

Mid 1930's solid wall construction 3 bed semi.

Electricity: £84.20 / 231Kwh
Gas: £129.62 / 1655.4Kwh

Both those include standing charge. That was for December which wasn't exactly Arctic conditions.
I'm in all day so heating is on a fair bit through the daytime.

3 Bed 1970’s council mid terraced.

Electric everything - no gas.
(On demand electric hot water, electric radiators. Also running a huge Vivarium for a 6ft long boa). Washing machine on every other day due to six dogs causing lots of messy towels (which are then also in the dryer).

986kwh in December. £285 bill
824kwh in November. £241 bill

I had the loft insulation topped up in November.
Has old cavity wall insulation.
I cry a little every time a bill comes in. Will be even worse come end Feb as my tarrif ends, which is currently 27.09pp/kwh

yeah, use more = pay more, that's how it should be.

worth sending ofgem feedback via that link too, I did that a while ago.

adding the petition to that would make it stronger tho, that's the point of timing it now.

October
Gas: £16:48
Electric: £47.88

November
Gas: £42.34
Electric: £67.22

December
Gas: £64.54
Electric: £66.62

Similar setup to you apart from I have a system boiler with a thermal store. No solar and on the Octopus Tracker tariff.

About £250-300 per month, combi gas boiler and normal electrics.

4 bed victorian semi with loft insulation and some underfloor insulation.

Pretty sure my radiators have sludge. Just haven't cracked into that work yet... Also its winter now.

Standing charges take the Michael.
I'm on standard tariff.
Gas = 61p/day
Elec = 34.99p/day
So £0.96p total or £350+ a year just to send it down decades old pipes and cables.

Yeah, it’s actually a disgrace that the SC is so bloody high. Sure they have to maintain the thing (network/sub stations) but surely that could be more than covered by the profit on the just you’re bog standard tariff. There should be something in place as well, where when the cables reach a certain age - cos they sure as **** don’t changed them - that you no longer need to pay the standing charge as they would have been paid in terms of R&D, purchase and installation.
