How much would you spend on a wedding gift?

depends on what you earn and how well off they are really..

some people would really apeciate a £25 voucher others might think your a cheap ass

Wow, some generous people on here.

I would say £30-40 for friends is perfectly acceptable. I tend to buy a bunch of smaller things from someones wedding list or something practical that I know they're always going to use.

Family I have no idea but probably anything from £50 to a couple of hundred depending how immediate family they are.

Cheers chaps, lots of food for thought, was a little bit worried that coming in under £100 would seem tight, but now it seems generous!

That's an awesome idea.

To be brutally honest, if anyone of my friends thought I was tight for giving them £100 or less, then they A) Earn way more than me anyway or
B) Are simply missing the point of receiving a gift of any value.
The fact you are there sharing their special day with them should be priceless to them.

Whatever you feel comfortable giving based on the relationship you have with them, but I wouldn't worry too much about it as I'm sure they'll have more than enough in the end regardless. :)

Am in a quandry about this one myself.

We are going to a friend's wedding in Ibiza in June and got the invitation the other day.

Usually for 'abroad weddings' it has said: your present is your prescence so have always given £20 - £30 regardless.

This one didn't say anything but a donation to the honeymoon. I wouldn't mind but they are having two weddings and her family is minted. Just seems a bit presumptuous.

As someone has already said - a lot of generous peeps on here :)

Generally think £30 - £50 is a good range unless its close family which should be more.

For an abroad wedding, I think I'd probably just buy them a drink each!

I've generally left £50.. some people can afford more, some less... either way it all adds up for them. I'd never expect anything - but it's nice to receive.

In Greek Orthodox weddings they pin notes to your clothes (usually high denominations) so you end up wearing a jacket and a dress with £1000s. I quite like that tradition. :)
