Just been quoted £170 for an oil change on my E60

Is that normal pricing for a BMW stealer?

If I do it myself Im thinking about £80 all in.

Take it to National Tyres, about £38 all in. They use Castrol Edge, new filter etcall included. Never heard any bad reports.

5L tank of oil is 40 quid, how much these BMW take!?

If you DIY it, be extra careful when screwing back the drain plug. Is the only thing that can go wrong!

and should always use a genuine oil filter, altough in my 4 years of bmw ownership the price of these has tripled! they where about £3 for my e30 almost £9 now!

Yes this is about what they charge. As said reduce it by supplying your own BMW LL04 approved oil.

I never knew BMW was that expensive, can get a full service for that on a Toyota. Labour costs must be astronomical for it to be that much.

It is a combination of labour and oil charges. The oil they use is quite expensive - £15 a litre on the shelf in Tesco, upwards of £10 a litre at the dealer (Can be had a bit cheaper on EBay) and an E60 will need at least 6.5 litres of it.

To add insult, she said they do a full diagnostic and clear any fault codes. She made it sound like they were doing it for free until I found out they wanted £25 for the privilege.

Ah yes, the old "probe". Tell them you don't want it done and you will reset the service indicator yourself.

You don't even need a tool for that, you reset it through the display.

Thats my thoughts. Basically, I wanted to have all the codes reset without having to pay £190 first. I'm going to ring around, maybe cardiff will be cheaper, but I would have thought they would have standardised pricing?

Nope, pricing is at a dealership level. BMW have now stepped in and asked all dealers to roll out the new Value Servicing range - Oil Service on a 5 from £159, Inspection 1 from £249 and Inspection II at £349 with front pads @ from £99, rear pads @ from £99 and front pads/discs @ from £249.

Your car needs to be over 4 years old for this, though.

Thats not to bad for pads from a dealer. Honda quoted me £180 for front pads on my S2000, just laughed at the guy and done it myself in 20mins for £30
