How on earth do I access drives on my local network

I've got 6 PC's scattered round my house the I need to share files between. since windows 10 has updated and removed my home group it no longer works.

I have shared all my drives made them open and gave them full permissions on security and sharing i can access another PC across the network. But as soon as i try to open a drive directory it just says.....

Windows cannot access \\SERVER\d

Any one else had this issue ?

And yes I have googled it but they have changed the lay out and how the networking works so much none of them are the same any more. I do not get why they removed the home group it was always so useful
