How sick do *you* have to be before you go to the doctors?

If I am really feeling it I wait a few days but most of the time I wait a couple of weeks. Longest I waited was for a month and then it turned out I had something a bit serious wrong so I dont think I would wait that long again ;p

It takes a lot for me to go to the docs.

Few weeks ago I woke up and my face felt really weird but I didn't really notice anything wrong with it, just looked a bit swollen.
It wasn't till my flatmate returned the next day that we realised I couldn't actually move the left side of my face. No blinking, no smiling... nothing.

I was pretty freaked out but still I sat down and just started googling my symptons. :o

I figured it was either a stroke (very unlikely) or bells palsy.

It was only at that point that I decided to see a doc, although I had to use a NHS walk in centre as I couldn't get an appointment. (To be fair though the nurses working there were awesome)

3 weeks later and I'm nearly back to normal, but from now on if something is wrong I'm going straight in!

I leave it out as well, unless it's a serious rash, etc.
A few months ago I had a migraine alongside sore throat, flu like symptons for about a week, and I rarely ever get headaches (can't even remember the last time I had one before that), whilst taking paracetamol for a few days. Slowly got better :D

i tend to keep away for the docs unless i really really need to
there is one bloke doc who if i see i always have to go see another doctor as i dont feel he gives me the right anseres
example
went to docs with terrible stomach pains, see this guy doc, and tells me its stress dues to my dad dieing and its my bodies way of coping, that my barain will fight off any infection as its all in the mind.
2 weeks later in rushed to hospital to have my appendix removed
i went last week to get my balls checked out as im getting pains in the left one, he has a check and says its all ok, the pain im feeling, stress from my dad dying 3 years ago and i have to go back in 3 weeks with a log of pain scale 1 - 10.
im off tomorrow to see another doc to get them checked again, and hopefully to find out what may be causing the pain

Something needs to be falling off :p or I get shouted at by the OH to go. I don't like the doctors, takes ages for an appointment and by the time it comes round there's nothing wrong and you look like a f4nny. (Although if you actually look like one, then definitely see the doctor, something not right there!)

Takes me a minimum of 7 working days to get an appointment, by then it's usually cleared up or I'm dead, so I rarely go. Meant to have blood tests every month at the treatment room though.

If I'm too ill to go to work then I have to get a doctors note, no such thing as self certification here. Saying that though, the last time I went was around 3-4 years ago when I had a chest infection.

The doctors here will sign you off for 2 weeks willy nilly so I don't usually bother, 2 weeks off work is a pain in the arse as I get bored and actually want to go back to work.

I rarely go to the doctors, usually only if I feel properly dump and have been bedridden for at least 3 days or if it's sports or gym related, then I give it at least a week.

However, lately I'm tempted to go earlier, purely because they ALWAYS fob you off with ibuprofen.

This thread made me lol

I work with a girl who has just got back from the docs because she's had a cold for 2 days.

She has told me (I'm her manager) that the doctor said it might be a slight case of swine flu....??? how can you have a slight case of swine flu??

Bad rashes, lumps and really odd pain is the only way i'll go!

I got dragged down the doctors because I knackered my wrist at the start of last year.. I thought it would get better but after about three weeks of being unable to use my hand properly my missus made me go!

Last time I've been before that was because I had a water build up behind my ear drums, I thought it would get better but I slowly lost hearing and balance after a couple weeks! Thought it was about time to get it sorted then! Gave me some antibiotics and I was all sorted a few days later.. Wish I'd gone sooner! :)

I don't think I've ever been to the doctors for a cold or anything like that though.. Usually just dose up on Lemsips!

problem is, At my docs you have to call at 8am the same day you want an app.

But you wont be able to get though untill 9am and thats when they are all booked up.

Its damn annoying.

Stuff like that is ridiculous... I only go to the surgery when I need a jab, it's just so difficult to get an appointment.

My mum managed to make 'doctors appointment' for my sister a little while ago, so she could get a blood test, which my mum (used to be a GP) specifically asked for. So, what happens when they get there?
'We're here to see doctor soandso'
Receptionist: 'There's no doctor here by that name.. but there is a practice nurse'
'So why is it called a doctors appointment?'
R: 'dunno lol'. (I condensed this bit).

Get into the office:
'Hello nurse'
Nurse: 'Hi, actually I'm a trainee nurse lol. Dr soandso is supervising me'
'where are they?'
N: 'next door with a patient'

A little while later...

N: 'yep, you might need a blood test, go make another appointment to get one'.
'But that's what this appointment was for!'
*more talking*
N: 'I suppose I technically could take blood now, I'll just email Dr soandso to ask if it's OK'
'........'

*takes blood*

So, mum and sister have left without even seeing a proper doctor or nurse, and had to argue to get what they booked for done.

'at least they send a text to say what the result is'

Some days later:

*BZZ BZZ*
'your results have arrived, pleas ring the surgery to get them'.

*mum rings surgery*
*phone engaged*

Some time later:

Surgery person: ' **results**, but did she have an infection at the time, lots of platelets in the blood?'
'yes lol she had tonsillitis when the blood test was taken, the nurse even looked with one of them throat looking things' (paraphrasing).
Sp: 'well she didn't write it down anywhere lol... ok, bye'

Stuff like that is why I avoid going to the doctors.

...Plus my parents are doctors :p

Last time I was at an NHS establishment (other than getting jabs) was a few years ago when I went to A&E to get my thumb looked at. (turned out I just tore a ligament). I was lucky to be in and out in about !/2 an hour, but most other people looked like they'd been there a lot longer.

If I have an infection and know I need antibiotics ill go down but its normally just a charade and I get given the same stuff I always do. Other than that I dont go near to my doctors.

Or are you one of those hardy soul who'll never admit they're ill, they don't need the doctors! And then eventually have to go when they're at deaths door? :p

Not everyone gets ill, some of us have superior genetics. :p

I had a case of severe dehydration and was considering calling the ambulance, but I could barely move, and I couldn't think properly, to the extent where I don't think I would have been able to work out the answer to 4 X 7.

Anyway the reason I was contemplating calling the ambulance is because the water I managed to drink I immediately threw up.. Long story short I am glad I have wooden floors.
