My brother went to china today (OvertoneBliss) for a year or so...

The thing is my mother bought his pc off him and before he went he forgot to take his password off the windows login.

Is there any way i can get past this, there is no way of getting in touch with him for a while... i need help :(

Please dont say i have to reformat :(

Thanks a lot

EDIT:

I know of plenty of solutions that could circumvent windows security. However, all of them are associated with rather dodgy hacker-types so I will not discuss them on this forum. Have a look around. It's rather easy as most load from a LiveCD that borrows the NT kernel bits it needs from your hard disk.

Load up PC in safe mode and boot into the admin account. You can then remove the password from the user there (I've done it a few times after forgetting my password :p

To do that you need to have access to the admin account in the first place, i.e password required.

when i did it i was able to get into windows safe mode and create another account and give it admin settings so when i booted up normal windows i could log into it and remove the password on the other accounts

You will need to download a version of Linux (knoppix) and a couple of small programs i wont mention here. It's a simple process. Do a bit of research via google and you will find the answers.

Who places a password on the Admin account except those who actually know about the Admin account - that's the real question... chances are he hasn't secured the Admin account.

He has tried the admin account.

luckypapyrussam, if you cant wait until your brother rings home. I would look at purchasing and downloading a legal piece of software to help with the administrator account.

Also, if anyone does a simple search it will show your story is true.
