How to own token shares from my fav. companies?

How can I go about owning shares, be that a small token ownership or more valuable share owning, without getting bogged down by tech-talk?

People might say why bother, but I'm interested. To the idea of owning a few shares in my favorite companies kinda interests me.

There is some possible benefit from owning token shares in companies as some will give discounts to shareholders. I think P&O is one company that does that, though they probably have a minimum share holding to qualify, some will not

It should at least say the cheapest way to buy shares, 10 - 20 pounds per purchase/sale. Your'll get some free shareholder meeting bunk through the post at least
