How to remove felting from the door gasket of my washing machine

I have a John Lewis washer dryer (JLWD1612). I have found significant felting - years worth - on the underside of the door gasket / seal where it meets the drum. I have removed a lot but much more remains. I could remove the gasket and clean or replace it, as in the video below

But I don't have the tools for that. Is there a simpler way?

I am, of course, concerned about the thing suddenly losing its water-tightness and flooding the place.

And how do I stop more felt accumulating?

Those are pretty basic tools if you do DIY or like to maintain your own stuff - I'd buy them, maybe £20 for a good set of drivers and sockets.

And I'd do it myself - look at it this way - you said it's years' worth. So say your machine is 3 years old. From now on you could do this cleanup job every 2 years and expect it not to build up too badly. Call it preventative maintenance.

I've found our newer machine has worn and built grime up much faster than the old one which was really quite old. Such is life, at least you can keep an eye on these issues and maintain them.

That model has a clean programme, it is in the user manual but off the top of my head..
Turn to rinse press and hold spin plus second button to right of spin, display will come up with cle press start and let it run.

Any suggestions? Looking on Amazon I see options ranging from £15 upwards but I wonder as to whether they're going to fail at the wrong moment.

I've checked and it seems I have some small socket drill bits. No ratchet, though, so I'm concerned about being able to do up the bolts tight enough.

That set seems fairly basic, holding only the bare essential sizes.

I've forgotten the name of my set, but it's virtually identical to this one. Plenty of sizes to choose from and it seems solid enough to me.

The door seal arrived so I got all my washing done and had a go. There was indeed significant build up on the seal, but not as much as I'd feared. So I cleaned the seal and put everything back together and noticed that the door wasn't closing properly. In trying to fix that I pulled the seal loose. So everything off again. Which is where things are now. And I think I've cracked the concrete surround. There were hairline cracks before.

And this thing has broken my socketted screwdriver. And I spent considerable time hunting for a screw socket drill bit that fell down inside.
