How to take better photos?

Is there any skill to taking good photos with a phone or is it just point and click. A tripod maybe, anything else?

Same rules apply as "normal" photography with a stills camera - lighting and composition are 2 major components. It also depends on your subject. Landscape, sports, wildlife, portrait, fast moving subjects (kids etc.)...all require different techniques. Sticking your phone on a tripod and going out to photograph F1 cars isn't going to magically give you amazing photos, and likewise even though phone cameras have gotten good, don't expect results like you'd get from a dedicated stills camera for a lot of things.
