how would you feel if you were the bloke in the middle seat?

US domestic no-frills airline Southwest has a “customer of size” policy that insists passengers who cannot lower both armrests buy a second ticket which is reimbursed if the flight is not full.

This should be used by all airlines, makes sense to me, if you can't fit in a single seat you should have to buy 2.

But DAMN that guy is huge.

Some fat ***** on the train earlier this week took up two seats whilst others have to stand (not me I might add, I got on the train earlier). She should pay for two tickets.

As for planes, that bloke shouldn't be let on in my opinion. Or he should pay two fares and sat by the window across two seats. He should also have a smaller baggage allowance to make up for the fact that most of it is taken up by his lard arse.

Thats really quite sad :( I cant imagine what that man must have felt like having to move everytime an air hostess or passenger wanted to get past.

Don't really have any sympathy for the guy since he can choose to loose weight at any time.

would you feel quite so sorry for him if you had to try and get past him if the plane was on fire?

i wouldn't either. i'm not a big fan of ott h&s but this is a serious fail in h&s

The London Midland trains have notoriously narrow seats. People who travel often know this, so tend to leave the middle seat free and use the ones either side. Unfortunately you sometimes get a beast of a person sit down in the middle seats which makes for a very unpleasant journey.

To all those comments ridiculing him about his size

He's twice the man you are!

My thought is the big guy did have the two seats behind, the flight was under way and he had gotten up to chat to his mate in front, he was sat straddling the arm of the empty seat. Judging by the size of his shoulders we could use him on our teams offensive line.

looks like this tbh

I had to laugh when I saw that picture.

I agree with the other Airline regarding size and having to book 2 seats. They have even said they would refund if the flight wasn't full which is nice of them to suggest.

I thought Jabba the hut was dead..

The comments on Telegraph article make me cry, "It's a disease". No, in most cases it's just a lack of self respect, no self control, poor diet and habit.
The longer people keep making excuses for them the longer they'll stay fat.

I wouldn't want to be infront of him in a crash, he'd single handedly wipe out the front passengers! He should have been thrown off as it clearly isn't safe if he isn't sat down properly.

question of the day, do you think plane safety tests have a maximum weight limit for seat retention in a crash?
