Get rid of National Insurance Contributions
Replace current PAYE system with a flat 30% tax.

That will significantly decrease the cost to employ and at the same time give the majority of individuals a reasonable tax cut... Hopefully also make managing the tax system a lot cheaper.

Reduce corporation tax to 15% across the board
Reduce corporation tax to 0% for three years for new start ups in certain industries (hi-tech, sciences, etc...)

Cut VAT to 15%

Invest in nuclear and off-shore to secure our energy future

I would look to make public sector pensions much more realistic (i.e. cut them or increase employee contributions).

Continue with current review of how to make the welfare system more fair! i.e. help those that need it (disabled, etc...) address the problems of the long term unemployed. I do believe that those who have been claiming for more than six months should undertake voluntary work; perhaps helping / improving local communities.

I would massively cut our defence spending and accept the fact that we are a small island on the arse of Europe and not some mighty world power.

I generally think that we need to make the UK the centre of "new era" technologies such as nano and bio technologies and invest heavily in promoting these new industries.

Let's see..

Child benefit scrapped, if you can't afford kids, you get NOTHING!
JSA scrapped, get them lazy scroats on chain gangs
Scrap the NHS, don't need it, if you can't afford healthcare, DIE!
Cigarettes increased to £10/pack, with a ban within 5 years
Alcohol, minimum price £1/unit with a look to outright ban within 5 years
All prices in shops to be rounded up to nearest 5p, thus eliminating pointless 2p and 1p pieces.
Borders to be closed to immigrants, and all current members of the population with immigrant status, to be deported to their country of origin immediately, if this is not possible, then they can be fed into the nearest power station for reprocessing.
Prison sentences to be increased, prisoners rights to be removed, no lighting, no heat, no sanitation, cells hosed down once a week with pressure hose, bare minimum of food. Dissension will be met with lethal force.
Car owners will be required to justify the ownership of the vehicle they own, 4x4 owners for example had better need to go off-road regularly, and sports car drivers had better have racing licenses etc. Unnecessary vehicles will be scrapped.
Large businesses forced to pay the full tax bill, else be banned from trading in this country, the loss of such businesses will allow for the re-emergence of local trade.
Once a year, all people born on a randomly selected day, will be forced into a one vs one contest, the loser will be executed, and the winner allowed to live for another few years.

Economics is a great subject to post about, particularly when you don't understand it in any meaningful way.

Thats doesnt stop the paid economists, its clear they dont understand the economy. Their more ignorant than ordinary people.

Some good points there and a very funny read ;)

One thing I would do is build streets for self build houses. Would be really interesting with nearly every house different and also make it so that developers couldn't buy plots or limit the plots they could buy.

People buy building and land, they do not buy local community or views. So reduce their power of influence on planning permision.
Do what all of Europe currently does. If you own land you can live on it with mobile housing without planning permsion.

Would resurrect Gordon browns one decent idea of building a new Eco city.
Would increase incentives for renewable energies.
Would put an end to the craziness of brick buildings. By setting a maximum build cost setting for certain housing projects and ensuring they are air tight and insulated properly. Using far cheaper and better methods than brick. You can still build in brick but its going to cost you even more to make them pass environmental factors.
Need to cut benefits of all types, while creating jobs do national projects, trainline, airports, underground/metro systems etc. also simplify everything. Tax ~20k tax free, then say 40% after that on all income, simpler it is, less loop holes.

Need to go even more hi-tech, so make sure skylon have what they need and other such projects.
Massive investment and deregulation for wind turbine and tidal turbines, so we can be world leaders and easy for company's to test new versions without expensive red tape.

Think that would do to start.
I don't actually think we want or need a boom, we could do with a decade or so at like 1-2% growth and let house prices slowly decrease through inflation to a sensible level.

Oh yeah no right to buy council housing and a much more private type of housing scheme. People getting housing to the selfs is insane. When privately most people have to share for a long time after the start of their career. No aspect of benefits should be an advantage over working. Nor should you ever get a situation of being better on on benefits, regardless if you do 1hr a week or full time. Working should always be better.

Start a debate about NHS, it is not sustainable, people living older, more treatment and more costly treatment, at sometime we will have to decide what will and will not be included on the NHS and we might as well start looking at this in detail. Maybe NHS for emergency and private insurance for more costly ongoing stuff.

No more social housing, return of the victorian workhouse, or live in the gutter if you are poor, I dont care.
Total end to all foreign aid.
Complete stop of child benefits.
No more government, after all we are ruled by europe, do we need the uk government with their massive wage bill.
End the nhs, need healthcare? then pay for it.
Flat rate for taxation, perhaps 20%
Reduce the armed forces, not really needed these days.
Stop wasting money with green nonsense, build some nuclear power stations.

Dormanstown.
Mass genocide on a world wide scale.
Then start from scratch with schemes that are viable.

Don't see how we can get out of the current situation as anything that would make a difference would be too radical.

The only thing wrong with this country at the moment is the price of housing, renting and purchasing prices are out of control. When it costs more than the minimum full time wage to RENT a two bedroom small family home in some areas, then there is something significantly wrong.

Not only this but I read somewhere, that a huge % of the total housing benefit cost to this country is to working families. Straight out of our pockets and into greedy landlords.

Rent control + Massive housing construction projects accross the country, not a few thousand here and there, Millions need to be built. This would reduce the cost to buy and reduce the appallingly high rental costs that are crippling people.

Does anyone know of any good articles on the net impact of reducing our defence spending?

If we cut our defence budget and focused solely on defence of our territory, would we see a net gain or loss? Most of our interventions abroad are probably calculated risks to benefit our country in some way, maybe through improving our image with allies (ie USA) or energy security. Is our defence industry enhanced by our military spending?

cut the bureaucracy, cut the nanny nonsense of giving everyone a fair crack o the whip regardless of abilities a new power station in westminister fuelled by the corpses of politicians and peadophiles. but in all seriousness......

bureaucracy is a simple one, none of this 20 years to build HS2 studies into how HS2 will affect the natural spawning grounds of the Brackely greater spotted toad etc. none of this bowing down before some wooly muppet who objects on environmental grounds and takes it to court.

need a railway, draw up a route, buy needed property lay track- Simple.

military contracts the same way, need a new plane, rifle tank etc? get a few demos try them out does it work and do what we need. yes it does fine give me x thousand asap please. none of this 10 years to decide and go through all the fair tenders etc best equipment for the job.

ban positive discrimination, if your good enough if doesn't matter if your black, white pink with spots have a todger or not or prefer the company of animals. companies will hire the best people regardless, those that don't are going to soon end up second rate firms and that's their loss.

huge investment in nuclear to stave off our impending shortages of power due to various generating facilities being decommissioned or reaching the end of their serviceable lifes.
