Hi all, ok i think this is ok in general discussion as i need some hard drive advice but also want some general discussion on how you would go about doing what i need to do. But if a mos feels that this threat needs to be in windows or hard drive section etc then please move it and i appologise in advance.

Ok i have two internal 500 GB hard drives.

At the moment i have a nice windows installation with only one partition on hard drive 1. But i think it has bad sectors etc and want to get windows reset up on hard drive 2 and move the data over. Hard drive two is empty and unformatted so i can see it through disk management in windows.

I want to set up 4 partitions on it. 1 50GB one for my windows and program files. 1 40GB left asside for vista and programs if and when i buy vista. 1 10GB hard drive for linix for my to play with. And the rest 400GB for all my documents minus videos and dowloads as this is my biggest files.

Hard drive 1 will then be formatted and checked from bad sectors (replaced if need be) and then set up 1 partition. On this i will keep all my video files and downloads (basically all the documents that i dont keep on hard drive 2).
So in effect....

Hard Drive 1
Partition 1 - 500 GB - Downloads+Video's

Hard Drive 2
Partition 1 - 50 GB - WindowsXP+Programs
Partition 2 - 40 GB - Vista+Pograms
Partition 3 - 10 GB - Linix+Programs
Partition 4 - 400 GB - Documents-Downloads+Video's

Now the problem... I want to set up hard drive 2 before destroying my windows installation. Is that going to be a problem? Surly when i format and install windows on hard drive 2 windows will be installed on partition (c). But i already have a (c) partition on hard drive 1 where windows is installed. So when i boot into windows on hard drive 2 with windows on (c) and have hard drive 1 connected to so that i can pull the data off and that also has a (c) partition already on it with windows, what will happen? They cant both be (c)?

Threat, mids?

MIDS is the NATO name for the communication component of Link-16. One commonly used instantiation of an MIDS is the MIDS-LVT (MIDS Low Volume Terminal) which has been funded by the United States, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain and developed by MIDSCO, a JV shared by Thomson CSF, GEC, Siemens, Italtel and Enosa. Another such terminal is the MIDS-JTRS (MIDS Joint Tactical Radio System), which is currently under development by the United States. An older MIDS is the JTIDS (Joint Tactical Information Distribution System). Currently, there are three production lines which are competitors: ViaSat (USA), DLS (USA) and EuroMIDS (Europe).

Are you talking in code? Is there something we should know about?
/shifty eyes.

Sorry.

In my opinion that all seems ok to me but I would give vista an extra 10gb. Just to leave room for exapnsion in the future if the need arises.

Thanks
