Howl's Moving Castle...

Yes, I really enjoyed Howls Moving Castle but then again all the Studio Ghibli films I've seen have been enjoyable viewing.

If you liked Howls you should check out Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away if you haven't seen them.

Kiki's Delivery Service is by far and away my fave of the bunch, although I haven't seen Howl's Moving Castle yet. I always thought Spirited Away was very dull, tbh.

Watched this with my son (he's 7 btw) the other day, we both thought it was great and much preferred it to Spirited Away. We've also seen Steamboy and Princess Mononoke recently which were also very good - any other recommendations which are OK for someone my boy's age ?

I would recommend The Cat Returns and Laputa: Castle in the Sky also from Ghibli as great films for a youngster.

Any of the Ghibli films (bar Grave of the Fireflies*) are good for kids and adults imo :)

I would suggest Laputa and the Cat returns (like loopstah) :)
I'm not sure quite what my favourite Ghibli film is, but Whisper of the Heart is fighting for the top spot with Laputa at the moment.

*It's about the firebombing of Tokyo and how it affects two children - I would suggest leaving that one until he's a few years older (ww2 history in middleschool - especially if/when they cover the firebombing of Tokyo and the atmoic bomb at Hiroshima).

Spirited Away and Howls are utterly dire. Nothing compared to Ghibli of old sadly.

Castle in the Sky, Porco Rosso, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, all gorgeous.

Grave of the Fireflies is amazing too, but in a much more affecting and solemn way.

Princess Mononoke might be a little gory for a 7 year old? You know, what with the guy getting split in half when the kid fires an arrow, and the like?

They are all without doubt cinematic masterpieces and 100% better than the poop regurgitated by the American studios, and despite the wonderful start I am starting to feel the same way about Pixar too.

As others have said just about any of the Ghibli movies will be perfect, just make sure you check for the advised age on the back of the box. My personal faves at the moment and I haven't seen them all are; Spirited Away, Whisper of the Heart and Laputa although Naausica and Mononoke and even Pom Poko (which is odd) are all excellent :)
