It could be that until he announced that he was HIV positive nst68 had given no thought to Mr Mercury's sexual preferences. Or it could be that as "the gay disease" that's what clued him in.

That wouldn't be a great reason though, HIV isn't all that discriminating about who it infects if you indulge in behaviours that put you at risk.

I'd never really thought of him as gay or straight, he was just Freddie.

But then I started to think of how he looked :-

I stupidly asked one of the guys I was working with, they took the mick out of me for ages.

It's a bit before my time, but wasn't he one of the first high profile people to die of AIDS? And at the time it was very much perceived as a gay disease?
 
My gaydar is atrocious. Didn't even realise Simon Amstell was gay. However strangely I picked up tht a woman at work was gay long before anyone else in my office.
 
LOL i knew for awhile that Ricky Martin was gay...how could you not know he was gay??.

Strange thing is that last fri was out with the fiancee and a few mates for dinner and i had this stunning eastern european lass come up to me and say that i look like Ricky Martin:confused:....dont know if she was blind or what but i definitely do not look like Ricky Martin for a fact....im far too ugly as it is:p:D...and yes im straight as i love ladies and their flower pots:D

Tbh i was under the impression that Rock Hudson was the first high profile person to die of AIDS...cant remember as i was quite young but i dont think he was gay although plenty of rumors around saying he was...Liberace was another high profile person who died of AIDS as well but it was well after Rock Hudson died from it.
 
My Gaydar is so bad. I spend all night trying to chat up all girl and turned out at the end of the night she was gay. I didn't believe it until I checked facebook the next day. : /

He was amongst the first certainly and that's why I put "gay disease" in quotes - the prevailing attitude was that it was something for homosexuals to worry about only. Magic Johnson was one of the first high profile heterosexuals to contract the disease although rumours about his sexuality also abounded at the time.
