HP 255 G5 Laptop - Black Screen, external monitor works okay

Hi guys,

I'm wondering if you have any advice with this one. I noticed when I turn the laptop on there is no light on the power button and obviously the screen doesn't come on but the machine itself is working fine through an external monitor.

Could the power button LED and the screen be linked? As in it's not the display cable or the actual screen that is the problem and it could be something else?

Okay, the power button doesn't appear to have an LED so not linked.

However, and very bizarrely, the screen will come on if you turn the laptop upside down and turn it on. I even managed to flip it round the right way to use it and it stayed on. It will certainly not work when turning the laptop in the normal position. WTF?

Sounds like a bad connection SOMEWHERE and its not detecting properly/something isnt making contact and so not detecting when you first power on.
