Hi,

I have a HP DC7100 desktop with 3.2GHZ P4 and a 40GB SATA drive running XP Pro with service pack 2.

I would like to upgrade the hard drive to something bigger but the manufacturer website says 160GB max. I'm guessing they say this because thats all that was available at the time.

As I have XP Pro with service pack 2 will it support a 250GB drive?

Also are SATA II drives the same as normal SATA but will just run at the slower speed?

Thanks for your help.
Dan

I very much doubt your SATA controller is limited to 160GB.

The OS has no limitation worthy of mention (as you cannot breach it with a single hard drive), so XP is fine.

Have a gander of the SATA-II sticky - in short, yes, you are correct in your summation, however a SATA300 drive is no faster than a comparative SATA150 - it all depends on the exact features of the drive.

HTH :).
