I've installed V5. 4458 gnoBoot. Running like a charm. Ds Video now works with mt LG Smart TV yehhhhh
It is possible to update to the V5. 4458 gnoBoot from the trantor 5 beta? Or is a reinstallation required?
Any real difference between the gnoboot version and Trantor's?
Hi Deuse,
I was in the same position as you and had the 5 beta and done the first update to 4418 Update 1.
Was there some reason why you chose not to just do the same again to go up to 4458?
Is there some advantage to move over to gnoboot? I am not too technical with no pc background, so it would not be a step to take lightly. But if a little pain here makes life easier further down the line, I'll jump too.
Your thinking would be much appreciated.
Appreciate that. So, just by updating the software, it doesn't update the 'apps'.
I think I'll take your advice in that case and sit tight for now.
Hopefully you guys can help me out a bit here. My transfer speeds to and from my N54L are terrible. When copying files across the speeds hover around the 1-2 mb/s, so definitely frustarting when I've got quite a few photos and video files that take up a lot of room and it takes days to transfer it all. The main problem is accessing photo's on the server through photoshop and they take forever to load.
Wondering what could be causing these issues? The server is connected directly to my router (sky hub) via cat6 cable. I'm still really new to all this and have read this thread and many others on the xpenology forums but can't seem to locate the exact problem. There are a few other issues, like accessing the server outwith my home, but I'd like to get the speed issue resolved as it's driving me mad.
So I'm new to this and am playing around with my Microserver and XPEnology, can anyone explain why I should select XPEnology over something like FreeNAS? Obviously I'm looking for data integrity and a hassle free experience - XPEnology does not seem to be hassle free and I'm not sure what the future holds for it.
I'll check when I get home, but I'm sure it's connecting at 1gb. I'll also check the cable, thanks.
I'm running XPEnology DS3612xs DSM 4.3 build 3810++ (repack v1.0). It was a fresh install, haven't updated it.
I know I'm still a complete beginner with this, but I'm getting there, just need this sorted out so the server is 'useable'.
I do appreciate your posting. Is this specific to the Gnoboot firmware as I did try with my trantor release and got the following error message when I ran the script and tried to update.
"Temporary directory access error during update."
I know you had success updating this way previously, so maybe there is a setting or something that needs to be done to make this work.
It's not much to go on, but if anyone can hazard a guess, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I would make sure you have a backup mate.
Not sure if this is right place, but if you've got XPEnology on a HP Microserver (54L) and you're just using it as a NAS/media pc how much RAM do you realistically need? Is the standard 2GB enough?
Why? I changed the password. Surely that's enough?
Just done that myself (V5 gnoBoot) and worked great. Plus the update using the script as courtesy of deuse.
Only slight niggle is that I have a red number 1 on my control panels icon. It's as if something needs action, but I can't understand what.
It's great to be able to update remotely now as both servers are really awkward to access.
Hi all, I've recently flipped over from Trantor's dsm5 beta to Gnoboot's 10.4 alpha. I downloaded 10.5 last night as it adds HD HomeRun driver - but am unsure exact steps to upgrade - is it just a case of squirting the latest image onto thumbdrive and rebooting the MicroServer?
Also, successfully installed Update 2 using the usual SED script above . Anyone seen any changelog for it?! (I really should stop doing upgrades 'just because'!)
