HPI Checks

https://www.hpicheck.com/ are the one place to give a guarantee on the information they provide AFAIK (at least they used to be)

I've used one of the cheaper £10 ones before and it was fine.

If the car you're buying is expensive and you want to make 100% sure I'd go with hpicheck.com

Its such a rip off for consumers, the cost to the trade is under £2 yet we have to fork out £40! While it is a fantastic service and could potentially save you thousands, thats one hell of a mark up.

I always go for the HPI filter check.

If you had the opertunity to make a good profit on providing such information, would you pass up on the chance?

I actually got them to HPI check it while I was there (they paid). It came back with no outstanding finance or damage etc. so it seems ok.

I've left them with my offer (£500 lower than what they wanted) and we'll see if they get back to me :)

I'm 6'0"

I just got in and pulled the seat back to see how much space there was, couldn't even reach the pedals!! Even though you're 2" taller than me I don't think you'd have any problems, there was loads of space.

What you need to bear in mind is that trade enquiries are effectively being sold in bulk, with franchises being tied down to a specific data provider (HPI or Experian usually) and then doing all their checks with them.

The Premium Consumer checks also come with a fulfiilment pack and a more extensive certificate. There are cheaper "Lite" versions of the HPI check if you don't want to check so many registers (e.g. NMR) or a printed certificate, such as the Car Status Check at £19.99 and RAC at £24.99.

The best value HPI check is probably those done through eBay which cost £6.99 each or £13.99 for 3. Of course, that's dependent on the vehicle in question being on the site :)

Id take a really good look around the car as well mate. Checking everything. HPI check doesnt always show if its been in an accident or not. There are loads of cars for sale which are unregistered :(

I spent about an hour poking around the car (he was kind enough to leave me alone to snoop around). I couldn't find anything wrong with it but then again it's not exactly a normal car so it's kinda hard to check it over properly.
