Hi,

planning on picking up a new car tomorrow. It currently has HPI on it. The garage have advised that they have aid off the HPI company, but on the AA car checker it is still showing. Has only been a couple of days since they paid off the amount by cheque. Am i correct in thinking that as I'm buying the car from a garage the HPi company will if needed try to collect the money from the garage. As I believe it is illegal for a garage to sell a car with HPI on it.

I understand that the HPI agreement moves to the new owner if sold on privately.

If any one can confirm or deny the above that would be most helpful. searching in google to confirm the above is proving quite difficult get every website ever created for HPI checks.

thanks

HPI is a company which provides checks on vehicles against outstanding finance, insurance writeoffs, plate changes, etc etc.

You dont have 'HPI' on a vehicle.

What exactly does the HPI report say?

Ring the finance company and confirm it is paid off, get them to fax confirmation once that is done then do the deal and buy the car, otherwise walk away.
