If you want personal service at their Canford branch Dorset you need to either have £50,000 in savings, a large mortgage or earn £75,000min.

I Bank with them at the moment and they have reduced their counters to just two.

Wonder if this is a sign of things to come elsewhere and other banks may follow suit. More affluent customers will get the best treatment and the rest would have to pay to get the same level of service.

Yes, I saw this.

Disgusting tbh.

They wouldn't discriminate against race or religion, but it seems you're allowed to discriminate against the less wealthy.

How many people here think providing staff for customer service is free?

Most of those complaining would no doubt also complain if they were asked to pay annual fees for banking to provide the service level they have decided they want.

Don't American Express do this? So it's OK for credit card companies to discriminate against the poor, yet if the banks do it, it's a problem :D

The sooner that people realise that basically, banks are just business and can do whatever the hell they want (within the law), the better.

No-one has the "right" to a free bank account, no-one has the "right" to a branch that doesn't discriminate against them for being poor. If you don't like it, use a different bank.

They made 24Billion profit. I think Banks are becoming very greedy.

Not off the man on the street they didn't.

How many people are intelligent enough to realise that banks do actually make a profit out of a lot of customers that should go to providing customer service?

Fair enough but they should change their Slogan and stop calling themselves "The Worlds local Bank".

How much profit does an average customer make for a bank?

Unfortunately, like most business, banks are allowed to market however they like, as long as there aren't any barefaced lies. You may disagree with them when they claim to be the "world's local bank", and I'm sure they'd appreciate a letter from you telling them just that :)

And, I think, just as importantly, what products are they selling to the average customer that makes them the most revenue?

Don't see what the problem is personally. They are more valuable to the bank than you are so they can expect a premium service :)

Saw this on the news, the street the bank is on also has a Lloyds and a Natwest, if i was either of those bank managers i'd go on a recruitment drive to pick up all the customers who HSBC are now ignoring.

Capitalism involves choice, if HSBC isn't giving you what you want then go bank with one of their rivals, simple.

The world's most elitist and snobbish bank seems more fitting in light of this news.
