The battery life is fine under normal use - any mobile device with as many features as the HD is going to suffer in terms of battery. You can't compare it to anything other than the Blackberry Storm either, as the screen is FAR bigger on the HD than any other Blackberry.

If I'm working in a datacenter and am on the phone a lot, I either use a landline, or charge my phone after, when it needs charged. Turning off WiFi isn't a nuisance either, it takes 2 seconds.

You seem to be looking for things to dislike about this phone.

I did say 'this applies to all smartphones generally'.

I don't care if it has a big screen to be honest, I'm not going to buy a windows mobile device in a million years anyway. My point was solely that it's yet another smartphone with inadequate battery life if you don't want to be bothered disabling half the features when you're not using them.

Disabling wifi at all is a nuisance, however quick it is, I don't want to be bothered remembering to be honest, I just want to hang up or click close and pocket my phone without thinking, It's a phone after all, it shouldn't be hard. And I don't take a charger with me when I need to pop out for a day, it would just never occur to me.

I was really looking forward to this phone and was definitely going to get one, but the reception it has got on the Internet hasn't been great :( Think I'll give it a miss.

Seems to be a combination of people who are disappointed with it, people who WANT to like it but haven't really used it much and like the potential of the phone more than the phone itself, and people who are long term WM smartphone users who are used to its flaws and shortcomings and don't mind them.

If you don't care if it has a big screen, and you'd never buy a WM device, did you just come along to try and pick an argument? The Touch HD, by all accounts, is a great phone. It won't last for days on end without a charge, but I don't think anyone would expect it to. It will last a day, quite easily, which is more than adequate imo.

Well, until you decided to make an issue of it, I was quite reasonable about saying it's hardly a flaw unique to this phone and some people might not care. But it is a very valid point, a day of battery isn't really great, go out after work and spend the night at someone's unexpectedly and suddenly you're out of juice. Maybe you take a charger every time you go out, but on balance I suspect most people don't. Sorry if you feel this thread isn't the place for any opinion other than 'oh my god it's great' but I thought it was a discussion.

* was childish *

I have a camera, but a phone that advertises a good 5mp camera, i should expect a decent camera, hence this entire thread asking for the views of people who have one and not some web site that had one for 2 days for free. Not hard to work out im asking for views is it now...

I still have not seen any pics taken by the phone yet? has anyone got some they can link so we can see what its like, not expect canon or nikon SLR qual, but something that is passable would be nice.

Power that will last a day with most things on, that doesnt sound too bad. How long does it take to charge of a USB socket?

As for the video's, im sure someone will get an app soon that will play most things for us all, if you do indeed need to convert them at all, not sure as i havent heard this from anyone else yet.

I am still tempted to buy it though, looks good and has everything i want, thing ill just go buy it on contract and see what its like. Just wanted to know any really bad points to it, wasnt trying to find fault with it, or trolling lol..

The camera isn't great on this HTC isn't best at great quality cameras. :p

Only review I found with image's is here: http://www.mobiletechaddicts.com/2008/11/09/htc-touch-hd-review-2/

Saying that I get along fine with the 2mp camera on the iPhone so I'm sure it's fine for snap's and contact pictures.

I must say I really like TouchFLO 3D, It might only be a fancy menu system but I found it really easy to use.

The thing I LOVE about WM devices is that they can be charged almost anywhere.

The amount of times I've ended up at other people's houses for afterparties after clubbing, and gone and used the USB to mini-USB cable they have from their digital camera/ec and plugged it into their pc/laptop and charge away.

So much more versatile than hoping someone has the same make phone and compatible charger as you.

Since moving to WM in 2004, I've never been in a situation where I couldn't charge my phone. Plus you can use motorola chargers too :D

Which was fine when all Nokias took the same charger, but there are like 3 different ones now ::(

And yes, like a blackberry, which I incidentally am not a fan of, as email is not important to me.

My X1 serves predominantly as a media player for music and tv shows, internet/gps on the move (I sometimes get lost in London) and a good texting device.

Guess it all boils down to what you want from your phone.

Camera and push email means squat to me, but qwerty keyboard and big screen for videos is very important.

I'm trying to decide on this or the storm, what is video playback like at native res), and how quickley does this drain the batt. E.G. could you watch a 2hr video and still use it for the rest of the day?

I don't know if the larger screen drains more power, and what the comparison between the 1500mah battery of my X1 and the 1350mah battery of the Touch HD, but the specs are similar, same cpu speed, number of pixels on the screen, etc.

When I unplug my X1 at 8am and go to work, I listen to an house of music, then the phone sits on standby for the day, maybe a few texts sent and received. The on the way home I watch an hour of video.

My battery is usually around 60-70% when I get home at 7pm.

I don't use push email, and only use wireless occasionally, bluetooth never.

Hope that helps.

the screen is very impressive, been watching movies on the train and providing you get a decent overnight charge it seems to last for a couple of days.

Just got mine on orange upgrade this morning after a hillarious chat to the upgrades department. I had a HTC 3600 previously (SPV M700) and wanted to upgrade. £129 the lady said. No way I said. Maybe I'll go and get an iPhone on o2 I said. (Don't worry I wasn't ever really going to do that) Ok, let me see what I can do she said. £80 off she said. That's still not free I said. Ok she said, one minute. Actually, I can do it for free, she said. I'll take that one, I said. Oh no, it's one of our most expensive phones, I can't do it for free, she said. Well that's unfortunate, I said. But I can do a deal, you pay £109 for the handset now and I'll credit your account with £130, she said. I paused for a second or two in suprise. Sold, I said!

Honestly from costing me £129 to them giving £21 credit on top of the phone cost, I couldn't quite believe it.

Any way, it came this morning. It looks stunning. Personally I think the hardware looks better than the iPhone. The screen is super crisp and responsive. I haven't had much chance to play with it all yet. The touch flo system is pretty smooth and easy to use.

Personally, I don't like the half screen keyboard. It's just not quite big enough. I will be using a full screen keyboard.

[Edit] Just found a feature that lets you connect the phone as a storage device for increased file transfer speeds. Took just over a minute to transfer a 350mb file as opposed to 14-15 minutes when connected via active sync.

I've taken one snap in my dimly lit room and I have to say the camera is pretty crap. Slow frame rate and no flash is a bit of a poor show, but like others have said, if you want good photos, buy a proper camera. I'll have another go in the light tomorrow.

MP3 playback quality sounds 100x better than it ever did on my SPVm700 and the 3.5mm jack is extremely welcomed. The touch music player and library works quite well too. I had to tweek the eq in Sound Booster. I'm not sure why "Normal" preset has boosted bass levels and normal trebble levels, which made things sound very muffled. I had to boost up the higher freqs but things were great after that.

That's my experience so far.

I'll install tomtom and have a play with the GPS tomorrow but I've already heard good things. Also I'll test some video playback with coreplayer

What's photo + video recording like in good lighting? Id love to see TomTom 7 on it too... it would be an awesome Sat Nav device methinks. :)

Got TomTom 7 working just great. Picks up about 5 satellites out on my patio within a minute and up to about 8 or 9 just after. This is a big improvement over my old SPV which took anything up to 5 or 6 minutes to get a lock.

Couple of photos and a video. As you can see, you're not going to win any photography awards with this camera. Video isn't great either, so you're not going to be able to see yourself very well in any homemade porn unless it's some real slow-mo tantric business :D

I'm loving the threaded SMS. It's great to be able to reply and look at the message converation with someone in a chat room style interface. I quite often forget half the stuff said in a previous message. Previously flicking back and reopening drafts etc was a pain in the ass.
