Hi guys

After much research and spending time looking at the phones I have decided that an HTC Hero is the way to go, the Android OS with all it's apps swings it for me.

Could anyone give me their opinions of T-Mobile please, I have always been with Orange, I know O2 provide good customer service but T-Mobile is an unknown quantity to me!

I am looking at several deals including:
800mins, unlimited texts, unlimted internet (2GB) 18 months @ £30/month

Business unlimited: unlimited calls, texts and internet (2GB), 24 months @ £30 a month.

Are T-Mobile a reliable operator?
Is their customer service good?
Do they hammer you for overstepping the data allowance (and is it actually 2GB?)
Is their coverage good generally?

Many thanks for any replies, I think I'm almost decided now so just need these few issues clearing up! :)

I've been on T-Mobile since Dec 2007 as a business customer. Service and coverage has been excellent - no complaints at all.

You can also get the Solo tarrifs as a business customer. I've never been warned about exceeding my data allowance but then I doubt I've exceeded it.

The Hero is a bit outdated specs wise, it's still a cracking handset with a ROM update. I get good service with T-Mobile and I use a large amount of data and I haven't been moaned at yet :p

Many thanks for the posts folks, that's really good to hear.

I was looking at the specs earlier and it does seem a bit outdated compared to say the HTC HD2, which also has a fantastic screen and is my preferred option but I don't want to be using the Microsoft OS.

I've just found a handy utility on T-Mobiles website which allows me to test the 2G and 3G coverage in my area.

According to the specs I get "good" coverage around my area, showing three out of five bars.

The device will be used for alerting me via message if someone tries to break into my office (I will have a wireless motion detecting CCTV setup), which I will then be able to check a photo/video stream of so it's crucial I have good reception in 3G.

Would you mind doing me a favour and letting me know what coverage you get in your areas in 3G and if it works well.

The link is here

Many thanks! :D

I found it to be quite accurate.

You can use the Ofcom base station finder to track down your nearest T-Moblie base station which well help. http://www.sitefinder.ofcom.org.uk/

If it is that crucial, it may be worth getting a pay as you go sim just to test the reception in your specific area.

Just to let you know, data allowance on the G2 (hero) is 3gb with no additional charges if you go over, just bandwidth restrictions, not 2gb :)

Thank you all again for the incredibly useful replies, it's brilliant! :D

Great news on the data allowance. :)

Thanks for the Ofcom link, I will investigate! Unfortunately I can't get a PAYG sim as I don't have a 3G phone to test unfortunately.

I just wanted to clarify that's the the 3G coverage info I need, I'll edit the original post.

Thanks for checking shine, is that 3G coverage when it's still excellent?

if you like the Hero, why not look into the Milestone, which is a better, smaller, faster android handset, for only £5 a month more :D
