How does a starting price of $800 convert in to £800? And what is with HTC price gouging early adopters on this product? Bad move from a company that's trying to survive with a nascent technology that is under serious price pressure from the mass-surveillance company that is Facebook. On the plus side, the lower price for the original Vive welcome.

Does this bundle from OCUK also include the 6 month access of VIVE PORT

"*With limited time offer of 6-month VIVEPORT Subscription."

The $800 won't include the applicable sales tax for the state they reside in. As it varies state to state they don't quote in the upfront price. Hence VAT being 20% accounts for most of the difference between the exchange rates.

Our VIVE also come with the limited 6 month subscription offer.

The £1 to $1 price is inexcusable, and you know it.

..an average 5% US sales tax and 20% VAT does NOT come close to a 40% price differential.

The way I work it out it's closer to a 15% difference than 40%. Forgive me if I'm wrong, I'm not trying to be disingenuous. A lot of people don't realise that american website prices don't include federal and local state taxes.

UK headset £666.66 Ex VAT
US Headset $799.99 Ex VAT (£571.58) (at live rate, the actual rate used will be a few points less)

There is a £95 difference in price ex vat between the two countries. That is 16.6% more at the live rate. Lets say the difference for the sake of argument is 15% (way less than the 40% you say above).

While I don't doubt we are paying more it isn't as much as you think.

Think as well these were probably made in Q3-4 last year and the exchange rate has improved since then by about 10%. Think also shipping to America from China/Taiwan is cheaper than to Europe with many more ships plying the route, no Suez Canal costs and taxes etc.

They will sell many more headsets in the USA than UK, so they don't have to make as much % margin to cover their costs and profit as they do in the UK, to make the same amount of gross profit.

There are also a myriad of other factors that I didn't go into above so I could just get back quickly to the above comment.

Hope this clears things up a bit for you! :)

Where are you getting the prices for the accessories from because I do not see a bundle on their site.
Surely there is an actual pack being sold from HTC, or are you totting these up from the individual accessories page?

HTC have not yet made a bundle of VIVE PRO and accessories who want to be able to experience HTC VIVE PRO out of the box without buying accessories seperately. HTC VIVE PRO is only currently available as a standalone headset so we have made it easier for people to buy everything they need to to get it working out of the box, providing a bundle at a discount.

I didn't make it crystal clear in the listing for the Bundle so thanks for pointing that out and I've amended the description with the below.

The bundle includes:

1 x HTC VIVE PRO HMD - Professional Grade VR Headset
2 x HTC VIVE Controllers
2 x HTC VIVE Base Station Sensors for Room Scale VR
1 x HTC VIVE Mini Displayport to Displayport Cable
1 x HTC VIVE Control Box

Bought separately at RRP this would cost £1307.84. The bundle we offer then gives customers a discount of £57.85 rather than if they were to buy separately.

The 40% i was referring to was the current £1 = $1.40 exchange rate

25% of that can be attributed to VAT & US Sales tax.

The other 15% is accounted for with pure greed.

When you convert ex VAT (so no tax) GBP price into the USD price there is a 16.5% difference in price though, not 40%. Tax doesn't come into it until after point of sale.

The majority of the 16.5% premium you are paying in the UK will come from further overhead costs (we pay people more in the EU than in US, transport costs to and inside the US are less etc.).

Also my sister lives in Nevada. You should see how much she has to pay for food from the supermarket. So although we have it worse some ways, in others we are better off.

You can try & justify these prices all you want but it was amazing how quickly the prices went up when the £ fell from $1.40 to $1.20 after you know what.....we have seen absolutely ZERO corresponding price reductions now the £ has recovered to its old level....we are being scammed, end of story.

I am disappointed you have that perception as I myself went through and changed ALL Corsair peripheral pricing in January, February and lastly 3 weeks ago, downward, due to improvement in the $/£ exchange rate so know it to not be true (and that's just an example of me changing a whole vendors pricing. I do it day to day, week to week on a product to product basis in general).

The price is what the price is, HTC have set the RRP and not Overclockers UK. I told them I thought that it was going to get this reaction and was proven right. However they are the ones who make the product and can sell it for whatever price they like.

People are pre-ordering and we are already nearing the figure which will land with us in our initial allocation. HTC would have been kicking themselves, and their investors kicking off and people losing their jobs if they didn't maximise the value inherent to their product by selling it too cheaply.

If you feel the price is too high then wait until they ramp up production, get more numbers out and then they will drop the price and offer a bundled version.

Our first tranche of stock of VIVE PRO shipped today. We only received 18 units which means there are lots of people who pre-ordered who will still be waiting. We shipped on a first come first serve basis. Our next stock is due to land with us on the 11th after which we should be able to ship to all who have pre-ordered (unless we again go over that allocation in the meantime).

To everybody who will be receiving them tomorrow I hope you enjoy and everybody who is still waiting thanks for your patience!

Just had word that the second tranche of stock has been delayed by 1 week. I haven't been given a reason why but they assured me the stock has been delayed across the UK, so it isn't just OcUK customers hit by it. The next 36 units will be landing next Monday or Tuesday (16/17th)! Over half of these have been pre-ordered already. If you want to be sure of one in April I'd get a pre-order on if you hadn't already!

Apologies for any inconvenience, thanks for your patience!
