Sounds like you have done some experimenting yourself, I was going to buy the VDAC or CA dacmagic plus but was told the DAC on my yammy 1010 was good enough. There is another USB to SPDIF I looked at too.....can't remember its name now..

Note that there's usually a difference between a DAC and an outboard asyncronous USB>SPDIF convertor. More expensive DACs nowdays are starting to do both but not many of the cheaper ones do. The VDAC II does both and would be a big step up over your recievers DAC.

Coaxial is not analogue. It is an RCA connection though, which is also used for analogue. Maybe that is where you were getting mixed up.

possibly. ive been using hdmi only for 2 years and before that it was optical.
