Upgrading to a Core2Duo PC in Feb and wondering whether to use the existing PC bits (CPU/Mobo/Memory/Gfx) to put into a new HTPC. Or should I just buy a complete system and sell those bits ?

Not really bothered about HDTV playback just recording off SKY+, watching DVDs and watching ripped movies from the hard drive.

Existing specs are Athlon 3400+ / 6800LE AGP graphics / Asus 8VSE Deluxe mobo/ Corsair memory. Looking on ebay worth £30/£30/£30/£50 in total.

Have come up with this spec for the bits to make this into a nice HTPC which comes to £370.

What do you think ?

I'd drop the DVD drives from the system, they tend to be noisy and will clutter an already compact case, I do all my ripping etc on my main PC and then move/share the data over a LAN.

Not sure what cooler is on your 6800LE but if it's even slightly noisy I'd flog the card and by something less powerful with passive cooling.

Other than that has all the makings of a good HTPC
