Huge Police Motorcycle Convoy on M6 South This Morning

Did anyone see this or have any idea what was going on?

Around 40 police bikes travelling in the fast lane, very tight together (possibly three wide in the lane) and nose to tail by only a few feet. Marked cars at the front and the back and all had lights flashing but no sirens that I could tell.

Some sort of exercise or ?

There didn't appear to be anything but bikes in the convoy., apart from the marked cars front and back.

At least I'm not going mad! Bit of a strange one as they were tightly bunched together with no other vehicles in amongst them. Seemed like an awful lot of bikes for any kind of escort, I can only presume it was some sort of training.

Drove from Newport, Wales, home to Devon this afternoon, and saw a load of police bikes, not all in police uniform, going up the M5 around Bridgewater. Then 5 minutes later saw what must have been 40+ police bikes with marked cars at either end of the convoy with blue lights on in the fast lane, and remembered seeing this post the other day!

"They were there to support the tour of Britain bike race. By using motorbikes the police kept a rolling road closure around the bikes. Only closing roads when the cyclists got near. causing as little disruption as possible. Were you hoping for something more exciting than that."
