Hunting and racing idle on 1.6 Zetec

My mates P reg escort has a 1.6 Zetec engine in. The idle hunts erratically at times and also it revs very high. It then drops back to normal. Not exactly nice to drive in traffic.

Im thinking maybe the IACV is dirty/clogged? I have checked for air leaks but cant find any.

Any other suggestions?

Apparently thats quite common on the Zetecs.

Its the idle control valve ive got to change the one on my 1.25 fiesta mate.

Try going on the Ford Focus Owners club website, theres plenty of information on the forums regarding this problem. It will be a problem with the idle control valve, either needs cleaning or replacing. Theres a How-To on the forums, that shows you how to do it, seems fairly simple process.
