With my system at home, I've been quite content in the past to use the drivers that get picked up on and installed automatically by the OS, in this case windows 7. The same with the systems at work. The only times i'll really go out of my way to install the manufacturer drivers are for when there is an issue with that piece of hardware not working correctly. I was reading a magazine recently, which was banging on about the default windows NIC drivers being pretty much crap, and that they cause many issues, one being the staggering of the progress bar (alternating between fast and slow periods) when copying large files across the network when few users are on the network. I always thought this was down to something else, but perhaps not. Anyway, are the windows drivers really that crap, and do you always make an effort to make sure your system's drivers are fully up to date?
