Hypothetical Car Options

It's not a case of if an autobox is good or not, I simply don't get on with them, don't want to get on with them and much prefer a manual at the moment. I'm sure this will change over the years but at the moment I would only consider a manual car, because that is the way I like driving.

Haha, I used to think like that too. Owning an 8 series changed my view. With old age comes an appreciation of good auto boxes, as sure as Monday follows Sunday! Try smoking a cigar and drinking a beer whilst driving your manual, you'll soon appreciate an auto.

Does it really need to be a convertible? The amount of sunny days we have in this country you could count on one hand.

For me, with £25k I think i'd be getting this: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201235483643088

As long as I had a 2nd car too :P

Before owning a convertible I would have agreed with you 100% and would have avoided them just to save the £2k extra on any car they seem to add. Now I like having one and enjoy it, it's not a 100% must have, but equally it makes a massive difference.

Although I'm sure the Lotus would be better on a track, I'd still rather have my Boxster S. It wouldn't be an upgrade for me.

I'm aware that autos are now far better than manuals, it's just what I prefer though.

You're not far off Vantage money there. Car will be older and a Roadster may need a bit more cash. AM warranty about £1,200 iirc.

In fact, not much point, only answer is really a 911 isn't it?

A decent 911 that isn't a sideways (non S) or backwards (996) step for £25k isn't possible though I don't think.

What Boxster did you own? I've driven a 335i and to be honest found it one of the biggest let downs. It was a total bore and did nothing for me at all. I'm aware the M3 is a totally different car in that respect and I've been in a number for passenger rides but never been massively blown away by them. To me it would appear a sideways step.

Mine was a 987S. Looked nice but didn't excite me really. The old M3 bored me too but the new one, well that's a totally different car and makes me smile everytime I drive it.

If you don't mind sacrificing comfort, noise and practicality then the Elise/Exige can't be beaten. Nothing, and I mean nothing I've ever driven comes close to making me grin as much as a Lotus does. If I had the time to use it I'd have another tomorrow without a second thought.

Lotus Elise

I wouldn't want anything that is more harsh than the Boxster S in terms of comfort, noise and practicality. This is my only daily car (although I do have access to a Polo in the household). Having been in an Elise, I wouldn't be prepared to live with one.

Mint condition Z4M Roadster and pocket the change for a decent holiday, then upgrade to a 911 when you've saved some more?

Either that or keep the Boxster and keep saving for the 911 which we all know you really want?

Problem is you want something "better", but your specification is simply what you have right now.

Is this maybe just a little justification as to you already knowing you have the right car already?

370z? SLK55?

To be honest the Boxster sounds like the perfect car for you at the moment. An M6 might be worth a look but you only want 2 seats.

Edit - Just get the 911 you wuss

The issue isn't saving more, I have more than the £10k spare. I just wouldn't want to spend anything more than £25k on a car really. It's enough money to have in a depreciating asset!

Not necessarily, it's a case of a slow day at work and hypothetically working out what 'positive upwards step' could be made for around £10k. If there isn't a clear one then that just shows how great the Boxster S is, if there is one then it becomes a situation whereby I would need to consider if the car would be £10k (or however much) better than my car.

370Z - Sideways step
SLk55 - Not a fan of the SLK's, I do love the SL but it's out of the picture due to the massive running costs and auto box.
M6 - Would be a consideration, but I think they are auto only like the M5?

SL out of the picture because of massive running costs but you'd consider an M6!?

This is a very odd thread. 'I dont want a new car really but look how much money I have so I'll tell the internet how much spare cash I have at 23' :p

rossk26 is spot on as is Fox really. Just stick with what you have, you're obviously happy with the car or you wouldn't be rubbing our faces in it about how good it is :p
