Hyundai

I must admit I am finding these smaller, powerful, economical engines that are emerging quite exciting.

Although they are never a substitute for a nice straight/V6. Fuel and taxes are not exactly very likely to to fall so I guess they are the next best thing.
 
What would be nice is if they did a tdi hybrid in one of these small cars.

Could make for silly mpg figures with a decent bit of poke to boot.

Hyundai are pretty decent car wise, dad has a getz ok it's bottom end but it's fairly nippy for a 1.1 and very reliable. Been over 3 years so far and not missed a beat.

Can you say the same for audi/vag/ford etc?

The Getz 1.1 is not nippy, sorry. It's nippy if the only thing you've ever driven is that and perhaps a mobility scooter. It's got a 0-60 of over a quarter of a minute. I will give you however that it's the same speed as most of the 1.2 Polo/etc lot and faster than the 55HP Polo of the same generation.
 
Agree that Hyundai and Kia are now much more attractive looking cars, and seem to be giving the Japanese brands a good run for their money over here, and the features are very good for the money.. But my main concerns with them were safety and build quality.

the base models of the SUV I was looking at had a single airbag only.. and the mid-range only had 2..

I am driving a rental Hyundai Tucson for the last couple of weeks and what strikes me most is the horrific suspension, handling and ride quality. I could not own one of these no matter how good they may look or how much tech is packed into them. To be fair, it is the base model. No idea how the more "up market" specs and bigger models are
 
Got to see and sit in most of their range recently. They all looked the part and were very nice inside. Didn't of test drive any though. The driving position of the new i40 seemed rather low, could just of been how the seat was set though.

Really liked the ix35 and Veloster.

Where did you get to sit in a Veloster?
 
FWIW The Veloster has been over here for a few weeks, I saw one in the dealer.. none on the road yet though. The 2 door on one side and 1 door on the other is a bit wierd, but I like it.

The main point is Mitsubishi were the first to get it working with a modern economical petrol engine, previously it was only used in low compression engines and with heavy oils. Everything else is a copy of that technology, and unlike Hoover which is a brand name, Hoover didn't invent the vacuum cleaner, he invented the rotating brush :)

Saying GDI isn't Mitsubishi technology is like saying bagless vacuums arent Dyson technology.
 
The Mercedes-Benz 300SL had direct injection.......in '54. They built a good few thousand of those.

Mitsubishi was the first 'mass produced modern' version though. Insert your desired get out clause as appropriate.

You are right of course, but it was a different system to that which we use now, the older systems would not work correctly in lean burn situtations, I think Ford also had a mechanical system as well.

All the modern systems now are based on the solutions Mitsubishi came up with, even though they use different names to try and diasassociate themselves from GDI :)
 
Hyundai's Genesis coupe also gets upgrades for 2013. The power of its 2.0-liter turbo V6 engine rises to 274 horses and the 3.8-liter rises to 348 horsepower. A new eight-speed automatic transmission is available in addition to a six-speed manual.

I'm suddenly very interested nigh on 350 horse coupe you say? Hyundai ? Are these genesis coupes available in the uk

Please tell me they are rwd
 
Mototrends seemed to prefer it as a driver's car with lower, sharper and better driving feel compared to the other "American" coupes. Many videos on tubeyou.

I like the shape of the Genesis Coupe 2010>, looks quite smart. Not too dissimilar to the 370z actually.
