This is probably epicly retarded or something but I cannot for the life of me remove my graphics card.

The GTX 460 has a cooler shroud on and it makes it impossible to see where the PCI-E tab is to get to, and I can't get it out no matter what I do.

Is there a trick I am missing to removing this card? :)

You should be able to see the pcie tab on both sides of the pcb on some motherboards or on the top of the pcb of the graphcis cards on others. It should not be that hard to get out.

Aha. I can see the tab from the top, but obviously can't press it in from there. I dread when I want to upgrade my motherboard. At least I can just leave it without new paste for now.

This is brilliant. I just see myself walking into my local PC shop with my self-built machine asking them, "could you take my card out please, i'm too dumb to do it :("

What would happen if I say, forced it to come out with a pull?

I remember the first time I ever looked inside a pc It was to upgrade my ram and graphics card. I didn't realise there was a clip so I just ended up tugging the card until the clip snapped. Everything still worked though :)

If you pull it you will most likely break a part of the PCIe slot - thus invalidating your warranty on your motherboard and possibly damaging the retention tab on the graphics card in the process.

If you can see the tab, can you use a tool to activate the tab?

What motherboard have you got?

Try using a piece of solid core electrical cable still with sleeving on and make a loop...hopefully you will be able to hook the loop over the tab from rear of card and release by pulling.

I'll use the rubber idea at some point tonight.

The boards a P5 something 775 board, but i'm replacing it when sandy bridge is out, so if I can't get it out by then i'll just break the clip :)

Thanks all ;)
